Is there anything specific I should be looking at in terms of the canbus?

How do you tell if it is compatible with a Tacoma? Most of the retailers of these Units are not exactly "english"-savy

Update on the FM. It works! Turns out I mistook the FM connector for the XM connector and so never hooked it up. Now the reception is pretty good and I am stoked to have this unit fully functional.

Now here's hoping it lasts for at least a year. For $340 what can you expect?

I think I am about ready to go with the dasaita head unit.

    A couple of things :

    1) Does anyone had a picture of the stock GPS antenae connector? I am in canada and the adapter that has been displayed on this forum is a bit pricey for me to get here, but there are lots of 10$ alternatives (or maybe you just use the new gps antenae that comes with the head unit?)

    2) Brackets - Can i make my current brackets work? I have an entune premium HU. i am totally willing to cut them/bend them. (3rd Gen Tacoma)

Anything else I need to be thinking about?

I'll have a picture of the GPS connector tomorrow if you still need it - gonna pull mine out.

You can use stock brackets for sure but you're better off buying aftermarket and modifying them.
I bent mine first but wasn't happy with how it was sitting so I went with metra and now the radio fits perfect.

I think thats it pretty much it, gps connector and brackets, everything else fits stock. Also dongle if you want carplay/android auto.

    What are metra brackets?

I'm an android user, is there any advantage to android auto with the dongle? I keep thinking the HU is going to be a full fledged android interface.. what do I get with the dongle that it can't do without the dongle?

Also, how easy is it to pry off the trim surrounding the radio? It looks like people just pull it off.. do I need to be worried about breaking tabs? Should I get some tools?

I don't use android auto, I use carplay. Mostly for GPS so i don't have to input any info into the radio, rather on the phone.

Metra adapter(you'll only need the brackets):
    https://www.amazon.com/Metra-99-825...?keywords=tacoma+metra&qid=1568389687&sr=8-11

No tools to pull it off, I haven't broken a single tab and I have pulled it multiple times.

DIY, GPS plug. Using the connector of the extra harness that came with my unit(other brand, I guess is the same with Dasaita), made a cable to use the stock GPS antenna.

Does not look correct to me. If you prefer to buy, get this one. It is basically what I have done.

Looks like everyone is opting for the PX5 version. Any reason why this is preferred over the PX6 unit? It looks like the PX6 units are a bit quicker but the dev scene is not as mature?

Thanks again for all the info here, guys!

Thinking about selling mine (with the wireless carplay dongle and gps wire). I miss the HD radio too much, and I don't have unlimited data so I cannot stream. But if you are a streamer this is great

I just ordered the dasaita unti off of aliexpress. Got the wireless carplay/AA add built into the unit.

I am going to use the brackets that benkitesurfs designed and shared in the "Iying" HU threat. It was fun getting them printed, as I didn't know much about 3D printing. Ended up finding out a guy that lives a few minutes from me does 3D printing and he did them for me.

I just need to figure out the GPS connection before the unit gets here.

What does the existing Toyota cable look like? There are lots of adapters available, but I can't figure out which one without looking at what the toyota part of the cable wants to plug into. Is a male or female end?

I would totally buy the discount auto one, but after shipping and exchange its a lot for what is likely a 1.50$ part.

You have no issues what so ever? What year is your taco? If it works fine for you I'm pulling the trigger on this!
