1st Gen Lunchtable Thread - General Discussion

I signed up for a series of 4 welding classes in October.

 

This was clean yesterday. Ran it for 12 or so miles today. Whole bunch of steam came out when I removed the cap.
Ton of white sludge getting into the plenum via the PCV. Pretty sure the headgasket is popped.

Im trying to talk myself into maybe doing it. But this looks like a big job. My main concern is getting the timing part down. The chain/guides were replaced 35k miles ago so I wouldnt do those again.

 

Just takes time. Do you have a garage you can park it in while you work on it?

Yup. My folks are leaning towards wanting to sell it though. It would take a lot of convincing to get them to let me do it.

 

Those old Toyota motors are simple. Take your time and it’ll be fine

Just position it on TDC before you start and take plenty of pictures along the way. That's the most important thing.

Just remember to get a good straight edge and make sure the head or block isn’t warped. If it is you’ll just blow the gasket again
