Would love to get in to bow hunting. Even just shooting a compound and learning how to do that would be fun. Alas I don’t need another expensive hobby

There are a lot of factors in which alcohol can be beneficial and not just coming down to chemical components into the individual drinks.

Is alcohol a low level poison? Yes.
Is it better you keep consumption down to a reasonable level? Yes.
Is it going to actually impact your disease susceptibility and shorten your life drinking it moderately? Not sure. I’ve found it hard to find studies that show moderate drinking is significantly harmful. But I will look harder.

Hobbies are only expensive when you allow them to be. I’m a cheap bastard and I hunt.

I always like the fancy gadgets and doo dads though haha. What does an entry bow run? Maybe I’ll look in to it some. Any recommendations on things?

People who live longer don't have mental health issues to begin with. Given that depression, anxiety, and other major disorders increase the risk of alcohol abuse and result is a shortened lifespan, your comment doesn't make sense.

    Fixed this for you

Well I might walk that one back:

    https://www.jsad.com/doi/abs/10.15288/jsad.2016.77.185

If you do the alcohol calculations, its a very small amount (less than a drink a day associated with decreased risk, which ends up being insignificant). Suggests it has no impact.

Buy used to keep the cost down. My Parker brand new was $400 and my current Diamond was $600.

You can drop $2,000 on a bow easy but you don’t have to.

Meh. TLDR tbh. There’s studies that go both ways on everything.

I read the previously posted article.

That was a pretty all inclusive meta analysis. Which IMO assumed a lot.

Plus when I make decisions on my health like “how much beer is OK to drink healthily” I don’t use information like how likely I am to die in a alcohol related motor vehicle accident. I care about actual metabolic impact on my body from level/type of consumption. While I totally appreciate the holistic perspective of alcohol on public health whats important to me is individual health when it comes to my individual choices.

Let me give the JAMA one a read.

Mine was $699 with quiver and sight included. You can get them cheaper.

@weldertaco head/neck shots are hard with a bow. Let me know how it works out for you if you try.

I don’t. I planned on upgrading the sight this past summer but never got around to it. Currrntly a 4 pin sight, but I’m
    Going to a single pin.

Yeah I already know my anxiety disorder is going to kill me. Probably via arteriosclerosis due to hypertension. My money is on a stroke.

Thats always something I’ve wanted to add to my bow. I don’t hunt in the same stand or area so I always have to pull out my handheld. Would be nice if its just there.

You are young and high-strung. Its normal at this age. Its probably rooted in something like you feel a sense of financial urgency, you are worried about your career, worried about health, all of which is made worse due to numerous sources of uncertainty... give it another decade and you will relax or develop a substance abuse problem.

My 2cents is that anyone one who has the will the run themselves into injury, and keep running while injured, probably has the resiliency to overcome life's chronic stressors. Now get some fucking surgery on that knee of yours and free up some cash to invest when the market crashes next year and you will be fine! And, work on your decline bench (no particular reason, seemed like something I should say).
