Now I know why your in neuro. You can read minds!

I sure as hell hope I calm down in 10 years LOL.

Oh and I didn’t run myself into injury, I kneeled down to pick something up off the bathroom floor and POP! So its not even a cool story. And I can run absolutely pain free. I cannot kneel, bike, swim, bend over, or climb stairs without pain.

That’s why I have a charcoal backup. Although the Weber has become my main grill and the gas grill hardly ever gets used anymore

Not life extending but big time supplement supporter. I take a laundry list. I’m a naturopathic guy.

I probably need to look more into long term stuff. Are you taking such supplements?

I take all of the above. Im not scared of mortality, I'm scared of morbidity. I also takes tons of bacopa, echinacea, ginger root, ginsing, and ginko.... and liquid msm/chondroitin/glucosamine, bCAAs, long and short release protein, and lots of kombucha and yogurt. I WILL LIVE FOREVER!

You say you are a naturopathic guy? Explain.

    I have Hashimotos Thyroiditis.

I started getting symptoms very young (18) that came across more psychologically than physically. Then about 5 years ago it morphed into a lot of GI issues and food sensitivity that took a years worth of physicians and elimination diets to explain. I still feel like a lot of autoimmune conditions aren’t truly understood by docs.
I found my current doc who has helped me understand how a lot of autoimmune conditions cause GI sensitivities and thus nutrient deficiencies which don’t help with symptoms.
Being young I’m mostly hyperthyroid right now. 3 out of 4 of my yearly thyroid panels come up high. 1 is usually low. Its my April-May test always. Why this is IDK.

The vast majority of what I take is to help combat what I may not be getting nutritionally because of an inflamed gut but also I burn through some things being hyperthyroid.

    Currently on my list is:
    Fish Oil
    Flax Seed Oil
    DHA
    DHEA
    Vitamin E
    Vitamin C
    Vitamin D
    Selenium
    B12
    B Complex
    Probiotics
    Zinc
    Magnesium

    There maybe more I’m forgetting.

My diet is pretty controlled as well. Outside of my beer obsession that does not help with gut permeability or probiotics I know. I really try to limit processed foods. Whole foods make up 95% of my diet.

I believe food, or more avoidance of certain foods is a large part of staying healthy and avoiding disease.

Goals: Avoid expensive pharmaceuticals as long as possible. My thyroid will stop one day. Hopefully not soon.

Modern Western medicine I feel like really doesn’t provide quality answers to disease and disease avoidance. Our research is based on only profit driven solutions which I feel are rarely actual solutions. I don’t want dangerous drugs to be my only solution to a good quality of life.

Well, thats where your anxiety comes from. Makes a lot more sense now. You don't do any beta-blockers or glucocoritcoids for your symptoms? Obviously these arent going to treat the problem, and you will likely need hormone replacement once your thyroid does crash, but I don't understand why you wouldn't do something for the symptoms. Smart guy like yourself should know how to takes these safely. As you can probably attest, diet and exercise will only get you so far.

I want to bring up another point - there is no reason to choose western vs eastern. Thats the dumbest thing patients do. Pisses me off. A good doctor will encourage you to do both. If you had script for a small dose of propranolol, or a similar beta-blocker, your anxiety would go away. Since you are smart, I would trust you to cut pills and dose as needed. At the same time maybe a little dexamethasone wouldn't hurt to keep in your back pocket for when it gets bad. This is standard stuff, and both are dirt cheap. I'm also surprised your naturopath didn't encourage intermittent fasting too. Regular 36hr fasting (couple times a month), and daily 16-18 hr fasting is known, and proven, to reduce autoimmune disease and severity. Literally the cells making the antibodies to your thyroid get picked off every time you starve. There are case-reports of people suddenly not being celiac, and other autoimmune diseases, anymore.

I can tell you that doctors get nutrition training and know how to work with patients with conditions like yours. Don't let your biases from being a medical malpractice plaintiff's paralegal influence your decisions too much.

I've not consumed alcohol in 17 years. But I'm sure what I did in my younger years more than made up for it

I don’t use those meds simply because I really don’t need them. I go through stressful times like everyone but manage symptoms pretty well on my own. Exercise, sleep hygiene, yoga, and breathing manage it all well.
Its not like I have panic attacks regularly or anything.

Do you have any articles on the fasting? I’ve read gluten free and dairy free diets are highly recommended fro Hashis but I have not seen articles on the intermittent fasting yet. I’d like to read those.
Now I’ve read research on IF and brain health and longevity.

Its been my experience going to doctors and they shrug and tell you nothing you can do about it until the thyroid quits and then you go on hormone replacement. So its not like I make this assumption. Its been my experience. Its why I drive an hour to see my doc because shes the best I’ve seen for my condition.
I don’t hate doctors. There are plenty of great ones. I’ve got a lot of friends and mentors that are docs. My work experience has shown me how to pick my physicians lol.
