Hey all, new to TW. I just got my leased 2019 OR (silver sky metallic) a few weeks ago and I love it. I've got a ton of questions that I'm sure everyone on here will help me answer, but I am looking for a OEM tonneau cover. It is ridiculous to go through Toyota with how much they charge, but I prefer the authentic tacoma tonneau over over getting another brand partly because of how it looks and partly because I plan on turning this in in 2-3 years and either getting another tacoma or a tundra (question for another day).

Anyone selling their tonneau cover? What do you guys think about the OEM tonneau vs gator or another brand?

Welcome to TW and congrats on the truck.
Dont get upset when you start getting questioned why you leased, you dont have to put your business like that out there.
For the bed cover, there is a marketplace forum here, https://www.tacomaworld.com/forums/3rd-gen-tacoma-parts-marketplace-2016.202/ you may find one in there. Keep in mind, it will be easier to find someone local so that you can swap bed rails too. It will make the process easier and cleaner for both parties involved.

For simplicity sake, I will just paste my reply to a similar thread started today by another member.

OEM mounting is way superior to any aftermarket, and it’s actually cheaper than any name brand aftermarket trifold hard cover. I found a used OEM one as they only come fitted from the factory and my truck didn’t have that option. I looked at all the aftermarket hard tri folds, Leer is the best option IMO. Some aftermarket will force you to relocate the OEM accessory mounting rails (not a good idea), most others use nasty generic mounts that take up a ton of room. Take a look at how the OEM mounts and how you open it, then decide.

I didn't realize that I would even have to switch out bed rails. Does the cover need a special rail set? I was under the impression that I could just use the rails I already have set up.

And no worries about that, I figured some would ask but I'll be in med school in about 2 years from now so between saving money and knowing that I wont be working when I am in med school the lease price is much more feasible compared to throwing 600-700 a month to finance!

You can use your current rails, but you will have to cut out slots for some of the pins. In turn, that will leave the seller of their cover with cut rails for no reason.
