What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

That’s for sure. When it’s above 90 degrees here with my black truck it’s noticeably slower and just doesn’t seem to like it much. I’m trying to get this meth kit up and going. I don’t know what I want to spray. Since I have fuel and timing pretty well dialed in I’ve been considering just spraying water. When I did spray 50/50 mix my fuel trims didn’t like it.

What’s your min/max on your meth controller?

 

Haha, I'd sure hope so. You're introducing fuel it didn't account for, the truck doesn't enrich enough for boost. How did the timing react and how did your AFRs react, those are the most important factors when setting up meth.

 

I couldn’t tell much of a difference from my current tune. I only ran the meth/water for 30 min or so. Since the 7th injector enriches in closed loop and add fuel in open loop I’m pretty good at the moment.

Timing is ~15 until WOT high RPM is ~11-12.

AFR is ~13.5 closed loop and drops to ~11.5 as RPMs increase. I’ll get belt slip and for some reason AFR drops to the 10s. I need to clean the pulleys and put a new belt on.

LTFT at idle ranges between 5-8 and 4-0 while driving. They seem to vary daily and are lower with a full tank. I hop that doesn’t mean I have a restriction somewhere in the fuel lines. Brand new pump and filter not to long ago.

When introducing meth it took a bunch of fuel out and I wasn’t sure how that would effect everything else, I also turned it off because the 7th was also spraying fuel. And I think it bogged at one point and freaked me out.

I just want to reduce the added heat as much as possible which is why I just want to mist water at little as possible and slowly work up.

AEM FIC maybe in the future. Don’t have the funds or the patience to go through wiring adding injectors and tuning again. However, I do like the 7th because it can at least reduce knock but also has the added benefit of spraying fuel and at least slightly cool if the water/meth were to ever run out or take a dump.

I’m considering buying a used lower intake manifold and installing a AIT sensor in a runner. That way I can measure the effectiveness and actually tune the water pump.

If you have any suggestions I’d be glad to hear.

 

If your dialed in then you don’t want methonal. If your spraying water you will get a small advantage but
not sure it would be worth it.

My AFR are perfect at 11.5 with 10.2 pounds of boost that starts at 4 pounds and goes all the way up.

 

That setup sounds pretty solid TBH and you're going rich during belt slip because it is expecting more air than it's getting. The 7th tune is static so it can't account for belt slip. You're gonna go a tad richer just spraying water so don't forget to account for that, you'll be taking up air space with water vapor.

 

Are you running a 170 thermostat? I just put one in and now my temps are 175-180 and the engine runs much better, but I do have a better radiator. By getting the engine temp down that means the supercharger temps come down too,

 

Make sure if you run water it has to be distilled otherwise the nozzle will plug up from mineral depots

 

Looking for affordable knock sensors. Is there a way to buy them not from Toyota but are still oem? Cleared my P0330 code last weekend and it came back again...so I need to get parts. Knock sensors, sub harness, and gaskets. Thinking I should do my valve cover gaskets why I’m there. Suggestions would be great

 

You can find them on eBay for 50.00 or so give or take. Their are fake one there too.

OEM will be marked Denso and most are dated.

I bought mine there

 

So look for dated Denso...anyway to tell if they are fake?

 

What’s your MAX setting? That will give me an idea of how much flow you’re getting above 4psi.

Yes, I have a 170 with the champ radiator. It runs 180-185 when it’s below 90 degrees or so. When it’s above 95, everything suffers. trans, AC, and engine runs higher and spikes much quicker with load. It runs 185-190 when hot, 190 under load. Trans goes up to 200.

Those numbers aren’t bad at all really. But with the added heat pump the performance suffers. I need to cool that intake off as much as possible.

It’s also my perception because AC can’t cool the truck on 93* and sunny days. It’s coming out around ~43-45 but it just can’t take the heat out of the air. When it’s cloudy but hot it does better. So I think it’s just the color that’s such a detriment.

That’s what getting a black truck gets you. On hot sunny days It just soaks up the sun.

My setup is Progressive so it starts at 4 pounds spraying Progressively continues to full pressure at 11 pounds if possible.

The snow nozzles are different sizes for more fluid or less fluid.
1 is the smallest going up.

I’m running a size 4 and 5 nozzel. 5 runs a tad rich, 4 runs a tad lean,
So I prefer the size 5 nozzle running a tad rich than lean.

The AC probably is making the engine run a tad hotter

I had a custom one made that’s 3 times the quality than the Champion, so I have no use for the champion now. The new custom is the one on the bottom.
The champion I’m selling is sealed in the box still

 

Right. I have a Devils Own progressive kit. I have the start point set to 4PSI but my Max setting is on 30PSI. That way it’s not spraying 100% and I can slowly dial that MAX setting on a hot day to see how it does. I’m using the #3 nozzle. That’s 370 ML/min at 200PSI.
