Selling a car shouldn't be taxed at ALL. Because you paid tax on the damn thing when you bought it.

So glad to hear the tranny feels better, wasn’t a huge irk when I test drove but over time it may have bothered me. Is your grill OEM? If not where did you buy from?

I’m Mo you don’t pay it at the dealer, you pay sales tax when you register it with Mo Dept of Revenue.

I just don't like dealing with people either coming to the house or meeting them somewhere and driving my shit. I could definitely do better selling it myself and you are right, my way of thinking definitely benefits the dealers. Probably make more on reselling quality trade ins than anything else. Who knows?

That’s what a dealer told me. Toyota makes the money on the new vehicle and the dealership makes the money on the trade in and service/parts dept.

At least in Ohio if it is of same price of lower you won't on a private sale, but higher than what you paid for will be capital gains taxed for the difference in purchased vs sold.

    That's OK as well.

But you DO pay the tax when you buy it. Why should you pay MORE tax when you sell it?

I just sold my 11 Land Cruiser on the IH8MUD site. Selling to other enthusiasts is the way to go. Sold to him for what my net trade benefit would be with tax savings. Don't like the idea of a dealer making 4-5k on my trade, bit trades are easy for.sure. Just think the tax break should apply to all sales, and not just benefit the dealer lobby.

Ah, wouldn't be a proper TW thread if we didn't have some people putting down another group of people for trying to have fun in their own way and enjoying it. (Especially doing things that the truck was basically built for.)

Pretty sure we had the "don't need those fancy doo-dads in a REAL truck" people earlier, so we are hitting all the check boxes.

Oh, and GET OFF MY LAWN DAMMIT!

@deusxanime Just calling the kettle black. There is a chain reaction to that increase in popularity and social media hype - higher prices. Can't sit here and say tariffs or inflation have anything to do with it. Nonetheless, no need for me to be snob. To each their own I guess.

Yes should, but I have read posts in other threads where some say they got their truck fully loaded for x and it doesn't have leather.

They also make money shopping a buyer's loan to different banks. And I don't believe the dealers aren't making money off selling new vehicles. They sell cars all day long with expensive, phony addons and BS theft protection in the finance manager's office. Most are sold well above invoice, they are making money off many things.

No I got my grill here under sales. I had to modify it to support the camera.

I think people are more laughing at the millennial tendency to discover something that people have been doing for generations, give it a new name and claim it as their own. Overlanding=camping. My dad had a camper shell on an F150 back 1979 and three of us slept in it when camping... but I’m glad people are out having a good time.

I get your point of a item should only be taxed once. I would assume that almost no one would buy a new vehicle to avoid that hefty extra cost. Why be the sucker that bought a new car and paid the tax?

I like the "don't tax them at all recommendation" during the sale. Mo makes residents also pay an annual property tax on motor vehicles on top of the sales tax. On a newer vehicle its in the $500 neighborhood every year. Its total b.s. Missouri double dips in my opinion.

They charged you for gas? I would like to know who this dealer is and pray he's not within 1000 miles of me.

They make money just not good money. The phoney add on are the included in the parts section. You are correct, I dont purchase all that extra crap nor do I get my loan through the dealership. I'm my area most people dont buy that crap either except maybe the loan scam.

Yeah "Overlanding" is a new/revitalized flashy marketing word. Those truck bed campers were pretty popular back in the day.
