SR5 or Sport or Off-road?

The title says it all. I have started my search for 4x4, either Access or Double, with dealers and most of them have only sent me back offers on SR5 package #2. I won't be taking my truck off-road or lifting anything. It will be a daily driver/hauler, with some snow driving in the winter. So should I really spend the extra money on a Sport or Off-road version? I like the look of the Sport's, with the color matching and scoop.

Also is $27,750 before TTT a fair price for 2011 Access V6 AT SR5? This dealer also offers a lifetime powertrain warranty for unlimited miles and unlimited years in that price. I see what some people on here are saying they are paying and that looks high. I will also get a $1000 College Grad discount off that price.

 

There are extra features on the TRD Sports & Off Road trucks that the SR5 models do not have (different seats, temp/compass, bed outlet, lockers etc). I guess it all depends on what you want to pay.

Have you looked at the non-current model inventory? I paid $24500 for a leftover SR5 DC 4WD V6 auto as opposed to buying a current model year truck. It was eligible for 2.9 financing because the inventory needed to move. Also check truecar.com for pricing in your specific area. Certain regions are easier to get better deals than others. This website pulls data from your zipcode.

$24500? That is a good price. I emailed a dealer that had a leftover 2010 4x4 SR5 DC LB. I offered $26000 and he basically laughed at it.

 

In april of this year I got my 2010 DC TRD Sport, Auto, Tow Package, Step Rails, Preferred Accessory Package, 6 year 75K Platinum Warrenty - 29,900 OTD , it also came with 2 years free maintenance.

Look around, check with any place that you have might be a member of Costco. BJ's, fraternal order of (whatever), even some large employers have a new car purchase programs. Also look at edmunds.com and usnews.rankingsandreviews.com

 

Yes I was very happy with the price but this was back in March 2007.
It was one of two left in Vermont, I had no trade & wasn't going to finance.
The truck had 50 miles then now has 47k.
No harm in asking you never know right?

Just be sure to sit in both a TRD model and SR5 so you know what's comfortable for you with regard to the seats. I recently test drove a new 4Runner and the seats were very uncomfortable compared to my SR5 Tacoma. Not too many seats are as comfortable as this...soft and form fitting. The others were just too hard. I haven't ever sat in a TRD Tacoma, so I have no idea if they're as firm as the 4Runner or as soft as the SR5 seats.

 

The SR5 is the best bang for the buck IMO

Make your decision on YOUR use...not your ego or what others will think.

I found the SR5 seats to be more comfortable to me. That and the SR5 passenger seat folds flat forward, Practical.
And the only thing the TRD offered that I would have liked in my SR5 was the compass & temp console.

The blue-tooth is OK but not a big deal to me because I don't spend much time on the cell phone. Alloy wheels are always available as takeoffs...

If you are not gonna do any off road wheeling...don't spend the money on a TRD off road.

Be careful with that hood scoop on the TRD Sport...some have complained it throws a glare in the windshield in certain lighting. Personally, I didn't like it from the drivers perspective. Although it looks real cool from the outside.

The only decision I struggled with was long bed vs. short bed. I have the SB...and some days I kinda think I should have held out for a LB. But, I know me...if I would have gotten the LB...I be thinking just the opposite. lol

I bought an 2010 SR5 Access 4cyl 4x4 in May at a very good price. I found TRD OR wheels and tires on Craigslist for $400, and within a week sold my steelies for $150. Also found a bed mat on CL for $50. Last month I added an Extang Tri-fold and a 4-prong trailer outlet. My net spend was under $22,000 and I love the utility of this new Tacoma. I traded a 97 4Runner with 225k miles so I didn't get much for it.

I rarely go "off road", though I am frequently on unmaintained, unpaved fire roads in PA mountains, especially in winter.

Now I have a new vehicle, and I am getting better mpg than before.

This is exactly what I would recommend, well said! My only regret is not getting the long bed. I bought my '07 the week before x-mas in '07 so I got a great deal on it but didn't have many options with the truck as it was the last one left. I went with the SR5 because I liked the seats better, don't plan on off-roading and the dress packages weren't worth the money in my opinion. Since I bought the truck, I sold my 16" baja wheels and bought some 17" TRD sport wheels (really the only cosmetic upgrade from the TRD I really wanted) and added a hitch and wiring harness. So far the SR5 4x4 has been a great truck! Good luck to ya!

 

I just bought a brand new 2010 D/C S/B 4X4 V-6 6 speed manual TRD Sport for 25,000 total with all fee's, taxes, and a 4 years maint. plan. I traded a 2008 Honda Accord in for it. They gave 20,500 for it. So do the math. I think I got a very good deal.

 

I've got a 2010 SR5 Access and I love it. TRD has a lot of superficial stuff that you probably wouldn't need. Especially with the automatic LSD you're basically set for light off roading. If you do decide to go off road a little more there a a lot better set ups you can get than the TRD. The TRD package is good if you have the money. The only suggestion I recommend is get the fog lights. It sounds like you and I do similar driving, the SR5 is the way to go.

I have a 2008 DC SR5 and love it! Ive driven it across the U.S. and enjoy off roading it here in Wyoming. Dont regret buying SR5 model then the TRD. Plan to modify it with a lift, new tires and wheels! Excited for the turn out!

 

Bought a certified 06 DC/LB SR-5. They were asking 20K ( it had 50K miles) They gave me 6500 for my Tundra ( it had 268000 miles on it) So I took it.

Pretty good deal all things considered, got the added Bump to bumper for up to 100K.

Since you stated that you won't be doing any off roading...

I think your biggest decision is AC or DC.

I'm bias, but I'd go DC for practical purposes and resale.

 

Why did you put up Off Road as a possibility IF you don't go four wheeling?

Why a 4WD even...? You will have AUTO LSD if just a 2WD... and that is like posi-traction in the back end.

SR5: Base pickup... its a Toyota, so it's good.

Sport: Looking 'cool' to others is important to you, that the truck doesn't do more, isn't.

Off Road: You want a truck that can do more/ go beyond/ and is vertually stuck proof... with the hydraulic brake booster you have enhanced traction control in H4 and the ultimate in traction in L4 with the A-TRAC system.

 

Well, if you live in San Diego you don't really need 4x4 if you don't intend to go four wheeling/off-roading. However, if you live in Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, etc... 4x4 comes in mighty handy in the winter when the snow comes - especially with a truck 2 wheel drive pick up trucks aren't too good in the snow - even if you put weight in the back. I would agree with earlier comment that if you don't intend to do off road driving you probably don't need the TRD Off Road. I have a TRD Sport 4x4 - I don't really do any off-roading - but wanted 4x4 for the snow. I thought the TRD Sport looked cool - and I really liked the sport seats. I know some people don't like the hood scoop - but I think it looks cool - and I have honestly never had a problem with glare off the hood scoop while driving - maybe it is worse with some colors (I have black). If you don't care about the hood scoop or the sport seats - I think an SR5 4x4 would be just as good as a TRD Sport relative to where it could go. If you really plan on driving through mud pits and rock crawling - I'd pop for the TRD OR package.
