Dont have companies for you, my guy did an excellent job but had to send it back two times for it to be modified and that
was 3 weeks down time, so can’t recommend him. And I had to pay for the shipping twice at 60.00

But if you want the extra performance and want your truck to run in the 175-180 temperature on a 90 plus degree day a 2” custom core quality radiator will do the job and will probably be the last radiator you buy.

My custom radiator core is 2” and the Champion is 2.5”.

But the custom 2” way out performs the 2.5. Champion core.

 

If only mishimoto made one for our trucks. After seeing their radiators I was very impressed, they make one for my tundra, nothing for the 1st gen tacos

 

I thought the 2002 4Runner had the same rad as the 1st gen Tacoma?

Mishimoto has the 2002 4Runner replacement rad but its plastic

 

Oh they make plastic for our trucks. I was talking about the aluminum ones they make. I’ve installed a few for buddies and they’re really nice. Ones going on 4 years with no issues.

 

Runners have different fill neck locations, they interfere with our hoods

 

I think the place for me to start is with some rough calculations, probably have to dig out ye olde mass and energy transfer textbook. The original radiator is super narrow, but I think with some welding I could move it forward and make it shorter and thinner, but wider. My intuition is that this would cool better since it's getting a larger flow of cool air, but without some numbers it's hard to tell whether it would be worth all the welding and painting.

Came home... and I had a new pair of boots waiting for me... already treated with waterproofing/conditioner and ready for hunting season.

 

Pretty sure the 4runner radiator will fit the newer Tacoma hood 2001-2004 but definitely not the 1996-2000 hood.

 

The ones I bought from eBay have the Denso logo embossed in the plastic part of the body. They look more OEM than the old OEMs that I took out. Get a new KS harness. I think my old harness was the culprit.

 

where did you get the harness from?

I like the sounds of that! looking at parts from toyota the price tag was pretty high.

 

If you dont already have it, the black 4Runner steering column trim will go with that wheel nicely. Fits perfectly too.

I think there is more to it than that. Champion has been making radiators for a while now. And they make a lot more than just Tacoma radiators. If it's truly just a matter of lack of quality etc. These problems would be present in all their radiators... and they would be out of business.

 

Anyone know the size of the CV nut? I used to have it saved but can't find the size. Needing to replace crappy cv from parts store since I've blown the boot
