From my understanding, the SAE squadrons are a completely "new" unit. It isn't just the lens that make it SAE.

THIS. Baja has indicated that this is an entirely new unit. However, my personal belief is that this is a choked down Squadron with a new lens type. Baja won't currently sell just the lenses. That said... Putting the SAE lens on a Sport or Pro unit will still make you far to crazy for the street usage.

This. Not to mention other brands have had issues with the internal optics melting when swapped to a high power non-SAE unit, even if it were possible. Not saying that is the case with Baja as I haven’t taken mine apart to examine the internal lens, but it is a possibility.

Would that be due to the additional deflection/interference that the SAE type of lens has on the outgoing light source? In essence trapping the heat...

The internal lens optic is typically much thinner than the outer lens, which is designed to take road abuse. It is just a function of heat and a thin internal plastic optic with no exposure to cooling, likely not a problem with the Sports as they are only 26w vs 22w for the SAE, roughly an 18% increase in power/heat. But on the Pros the power is approaching double at 40w and I would bet the internal optic would overheat and deform. Of course it was never design or intended to handle those extreme heat levels, so you can in no way fault the product. This is just based on my experience with similar products, I have not tried it on Bajas, but I wouldn’t expect the outcome to be any different.

I didn't given the solution that he is looking for.

However, they are pretty cool, and I am excited to get my grubby mitts on them to see if they live up to those serious numbers they are putting down.

I generally know when stuff is coming, but these snuck up on me. I don't even have them built into my catalog yet!

Hahaha my wallet can't handle any more BD lights. My retrofitted XL lasers that we talked about are arriving tomorrow.
