I think just the opposite. Can get a turbo that much closer to the head.

i wouldnt go turbo route. i would go belt driven supercharger. With stock rods, low PSI and the demand for low rpm tq why would you want to deal with turbos or a turbo and all the exhaust piping crossing under the engine?

Honda has been doing this with the J series engines since like 2002, works really well in applications where high performance isn't necessary

Ah, another engineering marvel Toyota would do best not to copy. The J series. Should come from the factory with a VCMuzzler
or just never been designed with variable cylinder activation to begin with.

I think only the Accord and Odyssey had the deactivation and it was rather annoying. But the J series is actually a pretty solid performer albeit that it is solidly under it's potential likely for longevity and possibly because its an SOHC design

Can't be worse than the V8-6-4 Caddy engine haha. I never minded the cyl deactivation much, but I wasn't exactly looking for performance from a minivan either. Honda ECUs are easy enough to gain access to that I'd imagine it's possible to disable if it was detrimental to how you use it.

You ever seen a cracked cylinder head on a car? About a million times more likely to burn an exhaust valve

Do it and make some money. There's a reason Muzzlers are being cloned everywhere.

Electric motor mounts because it shakes so bad, sheesh.

Yes, on two of my Toyotas no less. Its common enough. Haven't burnt a valve in a long time, was a more common event back when fueling was done exclusively with the Bernoulli effect

I had those on a Maxima once upon a time, was the oddest thing to have the mounts stiffen up under hard acceleration, but it was pretty cool, was like a racecar in response when I wanted it and comfy when I wasn't driving like an asshole. But that's pretty bad if they're using it to cover imbalance. I don't really use Hondas how they were intended, all of my knowledge on them is from engine swaps into other things.

From an overheat? I don’t understand how you could have that issue before other things breaking first

Nope, never overheated a Toyota, killed a Nissan like that though... Temp gauge was broken and I had no clue. Toyotas historically have pretty thin castings around the valves and spark plugs. One of mine cracked to the coolant passage after an exhaust valve tightened excessively, I had it adjusted per the FSM but the guy who did it must've missed that one. So I do my own valve adjustments now haha, and the other was just a freak thing and it actually cracked above combustion chamber and mixed oil and coolant. Cracked heads are so damn common that my head rebuilder says many of the heads he checks for people doing a head gasket job end up being cracked and the gasket was likely never the issue. Castings are cheap and done quickly, there's bound to be failures here and there, but head gasket technology, especially the MLS gaskets Toyota uses have a low failure rate unless grosely overheated.

In my time working on cars I’ve never seen a cracked cylinder head. Most of that has been with bmw engines though.
