Just purchased a 2019 Tacoma TRD sport crew cab 6 foot bed. I only have about 300 miles on the truck so far but I have noticed when slowing down to make a turn or going around a curve in the road when I go to get back on the throttle it seems like the truck basically just falls on its face. I have to get back on the throttle more than I think I should have to get it going again. I know the truck is just getting broken in is this something normal or something to be concerned about. I have activated the ECT and the truck reacts like a totally different vehicle in those situations. I like the responsiveness of the ECT button when it is activated and was wondering is it okay to run the truck with the ECT button activated all the time. I would appreciate your input thank you.

You should be good. There are mods to have this on all the time and have a shift knob switch. A lot of people run it on all the time.

Drive by wire throttle, programmed for fuel efficiency, it will have lag.
I always have ECT on in S4 if I will not be going over 45 mph. Bump it up when needed. There are mods to keep ECT on, but I have not got to that point yet.

Welcome! Your truck just needs more inertia, then it will be fine. I suggest Mobtown or BAMF steel armor, bumpers and sliders, that’d do it!

Give it a bit if time, you and your truck will get used to eachother. If that doesn’t work out definitely bring it back to the dealer to check it out. Good luck!

Do what you want. You want best possible mpg or do you want "feel" cause I guarantee you if you step on it you will go.

Thank you, if driving with the ECT activated all the time will there be a decrease in gas mileage?

I drive with the ECT on most of the time, and do not see an increase on fuel consumption..

Yes. Anything running in a lower gear will use more fuel. Is it noticeable or does it amount to an unacceptable percentage? Maybe, maybe not.

Here’s an example from my experience with ect on. I drive the same roads all the time, pretty much like anyone else. Home to work and back trips, home to town trips, home to friends/family trips, and long travel trips for vacations.

I’ll use home to town trip since it’s short and sweet. Normally I drive with ect off. Haven’t noticed anything it truly helps with other than having a gear hold rpms longer before shifting. While I drive from my house to town, my truck typically finds 6th gear around 42-45 mph and holds it no problem since it’s mostly flat or very little grade. The few times it does shift out of 6th it seems to shift nice and smooth and doesn’t jerk as it downshifts. Using ect the other day I noticed it never shifted out of 4th gear at the lower speeds despite being such a smooth grade. The tach hovered around 2k rpm and it isn’t rocket science to know that higher rpm means more fuel consumption with few minor exceptions and driving flat and level roads isn’t one of those exceptions.

Now, climbing hills that are a specific grade.... ect is exactly what I feel works perfectly and how a truck should be programmed to run without hitting a button. Almost seems as though they could program it to sense how much strain is on the transmission so it doesn’t find too tall of a gear too early. Anyway, while driving up an incline that’s about 1/2 mile at 30-40 mph, ect prevents it from trying to find 5th or 6th too early and soon as I get to the top of the hill ect becomes useless for me. Since hitting that button every time I drive that hill is annoying, I’ve rather learned better to press the gas pedal a little more firmly or just use s5 until I reach the top of the hill then back to drive. Seems petty but I have to lean to hit ect, no lean needed to use shifter. Man we’re lazy humans!
