I’m still on the fence about ditching the Solo kit. My hang up is the need for glass front fenders with +3.5 and then not having matching bedsides. I can’t run glass bedsides with my camper shell unless I do some serious custom work to the shell because the Snugtop overlaps the OE bed sides.

 

For the sung too I've seen guys notch the bottom edge where the bed side flares out and it doesn't look too bad. I am not sure how water tight it is afterwards though.

Interested to hear how the headers came out. I need to do he same gig but will probably use Doug Thorley shorties. Unless the pipes are stainless steel I wouldn’t wrap them, ceramic coating will also reduce radiant heat

 

Headers turned out great, no more CEL. Both JBA and Walker said not to wrap the headers until after the back cats because it could cook the cats prematurely.

 

Got pics of them? Passed smog yet? What Walker cats did you buy that are legal in CA? I always thought the only legal options were OEM and the AFE headers which are garbage

 

No pics, our headers are so tiny ...it’s like taking a selfie dick pic after getting out of very cold water...and being reminded of reality.

Yes, passed full CA visual etc just a few days after it was all installed.

Yes, the Walker cats are legal for my 2006 BUT have a shop carefully check your emissions sticker under the hood because not all years or even 4.0’s have the same cats CARB listed.

Same w/ headers the CARB lists have update and the JBA’s are legal.

 

So are the Thorley’s. Will be interesting to see how long the Walkers last. I’ve been lookin for low mileage/age OEM ones or might even use mine but they already have 200k miles and 12 years on them and it would suck to spend all that time just to have to do it again soon thereafter, especially for people that also have to pay a shop

 

Do you still have 4 cats total or just the two walkers? And that all flows through 4x10 magnaflow still? Thats gotta be pretty loud. Ive wanted to put headers on my ‘14 second gen but figured it was too much hassle with all the new cali emission bullshit. Oh and any reason you went jba over thorley?

Yes, I have all 4 cats new - you can’t pass inspection w/o them. It’s really not any louder than a MF cat back set up if you have a full length tail pipe. Due to my 3 link rear end my whole set up is very different, the 4x10 muffler is under the cab tucked up past the frame rail for ground clearance and the tail pipe follows the shape of the frame and then turns down and ends before the rear axle so it is a bit louder...not by choice just necessity to clear the suspension. The shop that did the work suggested the JBA headers over Thorley and I can’t remember the reason ? You’re not going to gain anything with aftermarket headers so I wouldn’t waste your money honestly.

 

So why did you get them? There are definitely gains to be had generally speaking. I have no personal experience yet with aftermarket headers on the 4.0L though. Dyno charts show noticeable gains though for both shorties and long tube designs (though the latter of course delete the front cats and often will make the truck sound like shit)

I had to replace my cats to pass inspection in CA, only options were OE CARB certified header/cats for twice as much $ or go with aftermarket CARB certified parts which is an extremely narrow selection. The dyno gains on anything bolt on are complete BS unless you can tune the ecu to know what to do with it.

 

Sorry I know its been a bit boring in here lately. After a lot of pregnancy complications my son was born on 2/22/20 at just 25 weeks and only 1lb 8ozs. He has been in the NICU at Mary Birch for 13 weeks so he is now 38 weeks in gestational age and kicking some serious ass at 6lbs 14ozs ! Probably a few more weeks until we get to bring him home but thankfully our little Makai aka Kai Kai is doing really well. I can’t say enough good things about Mary Birch, we are super lucky to have Mary Birch and Rady Childrens here in SD !

This was the look on his face when I told him about the plans @81Trekker & I have for the truck...

 

haha for the build reaction comment. glad you get to see him at the hospital. wife works in one and heartbreaking patients don't get visitors... almost as bad as what put them in the hospital in the first place. also, offroad parts and build planning are medicine like laughter.

Full set of Pelfry aluminum skids, front, mid & t-case. Great condition just a few scratches. The t-case skid was a prototype so it requires a simple tab to be welded or bolted to your frame to support the back of the t-case skid.

Solo Motorsports +2 LT kit, UCA’s, LCA’s, +2 axles and if you can help me find a set of OE spindles I will sell my gussetted spindles with the kit too. All are powder coated silver vein.

Edit - for anyone interested in the +2 kit, it uses an 8” CO with extended rod end.

 

How much you gonna want for the Solo 2+ kit?

I MAY be interested. Of course I run dual shocks. Are these control arms rigged to run dual or single shocks only?

 

I actually had to remove the inner bypass tab because it hit my big brake caliper really bad. I use the outer tab as the strap tab. You could easily weld a tab back on and it would be good to go for a bypass. I could even have the tab put back on for you if needed...

As far as pricing I am thinking :

$2k for lca & uca, axles & gussetted spindles all powder coated silver vein

The 3 link is awesome i could never own a non linked truck again honestly... super sturdy feel, no axle roll, adjustable height, adjustable pinion angle, you can play with spring rate easily etc
