I'd not ask for more than equal compensation, the loaner I'm sure you're in, and maybe the largest OE warranty available for Toyota. Since you've already doubled down, you could make that case in terms of a confidence bolster.

If you don't like that, take your buy back $ and saddle up an F150.

BTW, the desk at Toyota has your phone ID linked to a ringtone of Three Dog Night's "Eli's Coming", then they draw staws for who has to answer.

Hey OP, I am dealing with the exact same issue. I had the same code pop up roughly 400 miles after picking up my truck from the dealer. I have been going back and forth with my dealer and Toyota corporate for 30+ days now on whether they will replace the truck or not. It is currently in the shop getting a full engine replacement to "remedy" the issue. Lucky enough for me, I purchased my truck from Toyota of Plano in Texas, which is literally in the parking lot of Toyota HQ. This has given me decent access to the Toyota engineering department as they have been the ones directly working on my truck. They claim that it is a manufacturing defect in the cam housings causing this issue and supposedly there are only two known cases of this issue in the 2019 year models that they have sold. If the lemon law does not hold up, demand a new engine and do not let them talk you into just replacing the camshafts and housing. This was the original fix for my truck and it ended up causing more damage than it was worth.

 

You didn’t pay for the three things you asked for, why should they give it for free. They’re already buying back the truck and giving you a new one, don’t be greedy just move on.

 

I think the extended warranty is fair or extended maintenance plan, but not the other items—those should have been haggled for when you bought it. I would not accept a rebuilt truck—that’s ludicrous to pay for a new truck and have to settle for a rebuilt one with potential issues down the line. Hope it works out!

 

I'm still fascinated at people's tendency to use acronyms. How long does it really take to just spell it out?

What really makes me laugh is when someone makes the acronym, THEN decides what it actually stands for Literally every term in the military is turned into an acronym and it bugs the crap out of me.

Yeah, I don't know, if they had the Toyota engineers looking at my truck, I might think, I'm gonna have a Super Taco with a custom install engine but if it were the dealership, screw that, give me a new one.

No. Under the rules, they could've put a rebuilt engine in it and met the letter, if not the spirit of the contract. They are going above and beyond with the new truck. Please tell me you are not a millennial...

 

Become familiar with the Lemon Law in your State.

Get a lawyer familiar with your states lemon law

 

Get something in WRITING from Toyota that they are lemon laying your truck. Otherwise, hire a lemon law lawyer and go after them for a new truck.
