Before I met my wife I had a few relationships that lasted 2-4 years and in every one of them I had that kind of experience. I was certainly no saint, especially at that time in my life, but what they did teach me was that a.) I needed to learn how to be happy being just me and not needing to be in a relationship with someone, and B.) I need to find someone that has their shit together. Seriously it was like every girl I was attracted to was an aspiring artist or actress or something, but in reality just wanted someone to take care of them while they chased an impossible dream.

After my last relationship ended I moved out of the roommate situation I was in, found a hole in the wall place but at least it was my own, and didn't date again for awhile. I met my wife not long after I started dating again, and it was a very different experience at first dating someone that actually had their shit together...runs her own business, knows exactly what she wants and didn't "need" to be with someone but actually 'wanted' to be with me. But I wouldn't have stood a chance with someone like her if I hadn't taken the time before that to slow down and learn to rely on myself for a change.

This thread got all deep tonight :luvya:
