Chiropractic: Science or Pseudo-Science

I'm going to get an MRI, takes awhile to get in to see them.
My MD is going to send me to a spine specialist after I complete a round of PT if it didn't get better, well it's 3 weeks before they could get me in for PT so that delays it even longer.
I could switch Chiropractors and give that a try, I am approved for another one nearby.
My Chiro thinks either there is an old injury that wasn't known that I re-aggravated cause I crashed on my atv about 1.5yrs ago or that I injured it without knowing recently when the pain started and it's something the x-ray doesn't show. The muscles are extremely tight, so adjustments are hard and don't last long, but I'm on muscle relaxers and they don't work well enough.

He's done wonders for my neck and headaches though, so that's why I choose to see a Chiropractor, I was on meds for years with no significant relief.

Didn't even think of that. I'm assuming it's not covered by insurance? Is it expensive??

You'd have to check your insurance coverage. Seems like some of them cover it.

Also have you looked as massage and chrio together?? I did that regularly for a while... Get a 1 hour deep tissue followed by an adjustment. Loosens up the muscles and lets the adjustment come a little easier and then it helps the adjustment set in and the muscles "learn" the new right places to be.

 

The accupuncturist that I go to does not take insurance but his prices are very reasonable. For your 1st session it is $75.00 and any session after that is $50.00. Each session is 45 minutes.

I myself have two disks that are herniated. They are herniated in a way that one of the disks presses again my spinal cord and when it gets iriitated, my right leg goes numb. I go to see the accupuncturist, have him pop in the needles, get a quick massage and I am good to go for months.

There were several occasions that I had had to crawl on the ground on all fours into his office (luckily he is right on the first floor) because of the pain , had my therapy, and walk out of there doing back flips.

A couple of weekends ago, some friends and I went to Kings Dominion amusement park and I wretched my back riding one of the roller coasters. I was able to walk but had severe pain shooting down my right leg. Called him up, came in the next day and was back up to 99%.

I am an absolute believer in accupuncture and would recommend people to at least try it for pain management....

 

I tried that a few months ago, it helped feel better for a short time but didn't fix the problem. I keep telling my BF that I'd get better faster if he would give me weekly massages, but he isn't going for it . Wish I could afford to pay for weekly massages!

Wow, thanks much for the info! I don't know anyone who has had accupuncture, so good to hear it works well. Those prices are reasonable, so I'll definately take a look into that as well.
