Trails in Southern Nevada

If you all want info on trails around town, pick up the book Great Basin SUV Trails Volume 1 Southern Nevada by Roger and Loris Mitchell. I was told about it by another member and it's a great book.

It has 32 trails in Southern Nevada, that includes Vegas/Henderson/North Las Vegas, Boulder City, Searchlight, Laughlin, Pahrump and Beatty.

Each trail is rated on difficulty using the Mitchell Scale, includes GPS coordinates and map info, time required, how many miles, the primary attraction and any warnings about the area. There is also step by step directions on how to get there and step by step through the trails, down to fractions of a mile to the next landmark. Also, included is a brief story about each area and the natural attractions you will come across. It also suggests other trails to combine with.

For example, since I suggested Logandale Trails...
Logandale is about 62 miles from Las Vegas off the I15. It's east of Valley of Fire, so make it a day trip and go to both. They connect with Lake Mead, so why not take that way back into town.
The trail circuit is 23 miles and can take a couple hours. Most of the roads are class 2, with a short rocky area that is class 3, there are several miles of soft sand so 4x4 is suggested. The trails include gravel, rock, sand, hard pack, canyons and washes.
The roads are shared with ATV's so be aware of them and they should be given the right of way.
The attraction is a scenic loop through red rocks and the area was used by the native americans for the last thousand years. Just check google for pics, it's pretty there.
Logandale is kept open and maintained by the BLM, Clark County, Nevada 4 Wheelers Association and the Nevada Trails Coalition.


The annual Hump and Bump is held there by the Vegas Valley 4 Wheelers...

Where have you been?
What trails do you suggest and with the necessary info on those??

 

I would be down for Logandale Trail but I still got some things to finish up on the truck before I got out...so if your willing to plan this for the future...then I would definitely be down to check it out...

that Hump & Bump Event looks like tons of fun...too bad I don't have a rock crawler cause I definitely wouldn't put my Taco in those sketchy situations unless it was a full SAS front/rear...but maybe those milder runs would still give you tons of scenic shots, learn better wheeling techniques, and be able to enjoy the hardcore rock crawlers at their best...

 

You don't have to participate in Hump and Bump to check it out, there are some pretty cool things out there that weekend. I was there on my quad a few years back and watched a little bit of it.
There is a couple nice staging areas, lunch area with pit toilets and camping areas for tents and RV's.

I won't be organizing this run for anytime soon, we have a ton of work to do on our toys before our riding season starts next month.
Also, when we head to Logandale we take our quads and side by sides out since it's one of the few areas nearby that we can ride we like to take full advantage of it.

Welcome, there are different editions if you venture further away from the 'Vegas' area.
It's $20 at the local book stores, but can probably be found cheaper online.

 

Got word some people may be heading out next weekend to pre-run Logandale for the hump and bump event. Will post info as it becomes available.
