    Out in the sticks yellow pole areas and off trail camping yes.
    Campsites that have rings and designated fire spots no.
    That'd be like saying I need a fire permit to go have a bonfire at the beach, you don't need one but it's good to have one.
    Never had any problems as long as there is a ring and it is permitted.
