This Morning when I talked with my surgeon over the Surgical procedures we discussed the two most viable options and I agreed with him

    1) re-shim the current knee replacement to reduce the looseness which will relieve stress/ strain especially on the MCL and LCL ligaments . Then debrieve the scar tissue surrounding the knee capsule

    2) remove the knee replacement and install a newer version knee replacement prosthesis and the debrieve the scar tissue

The second option of replacing the knee replacement with a newer version . This would be the best option and only to be performed if damage is severe enough requiring a total knee revision . The surgeon will do this procedure , I also agreed to this procedure

This procedure (option #2) would also possibly make the knee to tight resulting in loss of ROM impacting the way I will get around ( walking) . But with intensive PT it can over a period of time increase ROM

So these two options are is what is planned for and during surgery

do you get any say in this? i'd be a little leary of the revision approach. just replace the darn thing and be done with it. its given you so much trouble its time to start over. even if the recovery from the full replacement is a bit more to deal with...gotta be better than being back in this same situation another few years down the road.

just $0.02 from a youngin :hattip:

Lets just pray every doc is on the same page here and knows what he needs. Kinda hard for him to give all the details I am sure. The very fact that you care is a gift to him. Nothin wrong with your 2 cents.

When I had my original knee replacement 5 years ago two days after the operation I developed a very bad infection inside the knee . This worried my surgeon and myself . It was treated with extensive antibiotic IV's but after a few days the infection went away

Not only that but a week later i developed a DVT in my calf that also worried my surgeon and myself . Now being I'm older now (58yrs) I'm a higher risk for Surgical and recovery complications

My surgeon and I also talked about this and why we both agreed on the two Surgical procedures

that makes sense then to have a back up plan. i would just be ready to take the option that would ensure i'd never have to go through it again. i assume they would consider you a higher risk maybe and take a few extra precautions in recovery to help ward off any complications this tiem around regardless of the procedure?

My Brother will be also talking with my surgeon the day of the surgery and will discuss the Surgical options and his concerns

Yes I'm a high risk Surgical candidate and everything (info) is in my records

that's good that your brother can be there for you and look out for you. not like the doc can stop and ask your opinion halfway through...

Yep my surgeon said I don't want to wake you out of anesthesia to ask a question concerning an issue with your knee

During my first knee replacement surgery I asked the anesthesiologist if I could be awake during surgery , It was a strange sensation !!!
