Please help on wheel fitment

Looking at getting new wheels, and compared to the stock 17"trd sport wheels I have heard are a 30 offset, and 7" wide. I am looking at a couple of sets that are option 1: 17X 8.5 with a 16 offset option 2: 17x8 with a 25 offset, and I am being told they will not work? is that right.... if not what is the closest size we can put on these, does it have to be a 0 or negative offset if it is a wider wheel? Thanks

 

It's highly dependent on what size tires you want to run.

Both the wheels you posted are 5.5" Backspacing. That will work if you want to run 265s.

If you want to run any bigger than that though, or if you want the tires to stick out a little compared to stock, go with a wheel with less offset. Ideal backspacing would be around 4.5", which is -6 offset on an 8.5" wide wheel, and 0 offset on an 8" wide wheel.

 

I am running 265's right now, not to say I might want to go bigger in the future. But Thanks so much for the info, because the place I am trying to order from is saying it will not work with the specs I originally posted

 

I'm just a board reader, and wildman with search.

But I THINK I haven't seen anyone on these boards running any offset that's greater than zero.

Brake caliper clearance is an issue, as is the tire with the UCA.

On a stock 2010 4x4 TRD with 265/70R16 tires on zero-offset factory wheels, I can't fit my fingers in between the tire and the UCA. It's *that* close.

You might try hitting the boards with a google search as follows (put the phrase into google use the quotes exactly as I provide)

That should flush out anyone who's running positive offset wheels

 

I run positive offset wheels (18x9, +10 offset, which is 5.4" backspacing) and have no rubbing, and my whels sit out a lot further than stock (due to a larger width than stock at basically the same backspacing). As I stated in my post above, the backspacing is what matters, not the offset. Backspacing is dependent on both offset AND width.

You also run positive offset wheels, as all of the stock tacoma wheels are positive offset. Your TRD offroad wheels are 5.25" backspacing. That equates, with a 7" wide rim, to +32 offset.

You'll want 4.5" to fit 285's, and 5.25-5.5" backspacing to fit 265's.

 

so if i have a 20x10 rim an the offset is -24 that means its 4.5" backspacing and i could fit a 285/295 in there?
