What do you guys think about this
    deal....

    http://austin.craigslist.org/ctd/1927827035.html

The guy told me he'd give me 16,500 on my trade in (2008 Tacoma prerunner, 30k miles)

It looks about even, I just don't know. What would be so bad about having a track 5 years old. It has the 70k powertrain. Thoughts?

    Please and thanks in advace.

Whats different from yours that you want to trade down a couple of years? This one isnt modded or anything. I just dont see the incentive.

If you end up with NO payments i would jump on that deal. The mileage is pretty low too.

Am I missing something, why would you even trade for an older truck with higher mileage? Are you trading from a std cab or access cab? I-4? Stick shift?

You want to trade an extended cab for double cab?

I dunno man. The spread is pretty nasty against you here.

If I really needed to make that switch, I think I might go for a *new* one. You should be able to get some pretty gnarly deals on a loaded 2010 right about now, with the 2011's pushing them off the lot.

From what I can tell it looks like you are going from an access cab to a double cab(correct me if I am wrong). But I think you can sell the truck yourself and make around that or more. Then go and buy a newer model for a few thousand more. That is just my 2 cents. But if you do not want more payments then this is the best you will probably be able to do. If you are fine with a few small payments sell it, and buy something newer!

Access to a Double, baby number two on the way and it's gonna be tricky for 1 or 2 years with a rear facing child seat.

Yeah you gotta watch out. I roll with lemon busters if I get serious enough to buy. That's how I found my truck for 16700 a few months ago on craigslist.

I wish. I'm trying to keep payments the same around 350.

I think you are on to something. I just need to be a little more patient.

Yep patience is the key. When I bought my 2010 I started looking in April. Took my time, tried to deal, found a truck I love!

I wouldn't do it. I'd say your truck is worth more than that other one.

I agree. You can get more for your truck. Go to carmax and get a quote. Then go get the DB. I agree you'll need more space. Just watch out on the numbers part of it.

This may be a bit long winded but I am verbose, sooo...... I can speak from a very recent experience. I had a 2007 Jeep Wrangler X 2door, and this was a great Jeep it never had issues and I knew everything that was done to it. Fast forward to about a month ago my wife and I dicuss the new baby we have on the way and in this dicussion I decided to sacrafice my Jeep (on 35's with a sick offroad setup bumpers the whole nine) for the better of the family (as we already have one car that has been a great car and we would get nothing on trade in for it). I went to the dealership and we pretty much knew what we wanted and what we would be willing to spend. I traded my Jeep for this new Tacoma (new to us, its an 08 with one local owner ). I had to come back the next day to get the hard top and there was a guy buying the Jeep already, it had not been washed or anything :D yea my builds are very attractive. The next week I had to make a trip to Indy and its like 12 hours of driving one way. I "NORMALLY" give a vehicle a very detailed once over when I first get them but had no time in this case. Well my Tacoma is at the shop getting a new carrier installed all b/c I did not look to see that half way home the seal on the drivers side front diff leaked all the fluid out and fried the carrier. This is mostly my fault b/c I knew it was a foriegn vehicle and did not keep a very close eye on it on the trip, but all could have been avoided if I did not get into a strange new truck until I got back. Well I know this seems far off from your circumstance BUT you have a truck that is running well and are contemplating trading to someone that (for some odd reason) is wanting to fleece their truck?? It just seems odd to me thats all, if its a good truck and he is willing to pay whatever then why is he not going to CarMax or another dealer? Maybe b/c they have great bullshit meters and he cannot fluff them into a trade. I am not discounting your want to do this trade as I am sure you have your reasons as does the other guy, just keep this in mind, you know your truck so far and know what you like or dont like. you get the other one and you have to go through the whole thing just to feel good about it, I would keep mine unless you are getting out of the payment for personal reasons. Good Luck either way you go. JOE>
