Selecting a mild lift (TRD Baja TX Pro + Icon AAL)

It's as close as it looks in the picture. The driver side has enough clearance to put a finger between.

 

I can only think of one thing that mite affect that is the rubber grommet that is attached to frame with the brackett. If that gromet is missing.

Remember this is an OEM setup, so everything is designed to clear and work together. It is close, but not rubbing, so you’re ok. If you had rub marks it would be a different story.

 

True, it isn't rubbing, but I also haven't taken it off-road yet. Do you think it will rub when the suspension is worked much harder? What do you think about sway bar relocation kits? They look like a good idea, is there anything negative about them?

 

I've worked mine well off road and have no contact marks. Toyota isn't going to include an OEM suspension option that will have clearance issues when cycling the suspension. I've since added 1/4" top plate on the passenger side, and 1/2" on the driver side and still don't see contact marks after off road use. However, I have thought about those sway bar drop brackets as well, I don't see any reason why they would be a bad idea.

 

Thanks, I agree that there should be zero issues using an OEM suspension, it's just odd having so much more clearance on the drivers side. I ordered the drop brackets yesterday, I figure if Bilstein, Icon and Fox include them in their suspension kits they must be okay.

 

How does the clearance compare on each side near the frame? Its possible your swayer just isn't centered correctly.

 

I loosened the sway bar frame mounts and couldn't get it to move forward or side to side. There are collars on the sway bar, in between the frame rails, that keeps it centered by using the sway bar frame mounts to limit side to side movement.

@crashnburn80 does the head of the rivet on your front AAL retaining clip ride on the overload?

 

It does.



Alternatively you could remove the retaining clip off the spring pack and leave the one on the overload to avoid the issue.

 

UPDATE:

I installed the Icon sway-bar relocation brackets, this gave me ample clearance.

 

Does Fluid Film damage the rubber boots on our shocks and struts?

 

Nope. I dont usually coat those, because rubber. But they get plenty of over spray and Ive never had issues

 

Finally got my truck properly aligned with the SPC UCAs. Had some failed attempts at Toyota, but Mule Expedition Outfitters in Issaquah was able to get it dialed in to my liking. I would tag them, as they are on the site, but I do not recall their screen name.

 

Again thanks to my favorite Tacoma dude @crashnburn80 for another awesome write up. I have been looking at these AAL's and was on the fence but am now for sure going for this setup. It fits my budget and should be a HUGE improvement over the current lift block under the leaf pack.

One question, did re-installing the overload spring negatively affect the ride quality much?

Block lifts are not kind to your springs and cause premature wear, the taller the block lift the worse the affect of axle wrap. Hopefully you are running a small one and not for too long.

I’d easily run the overloads again, cruising ride is affected minimally, it is stuff like going over railroad tracks that the overloads removes performed better, but the overloads in with the progressive AAL is still better than stock. Note that removing the overload reduces overall bed weight capacity, but if you leave them in you maintain the weight capacity and still get improved ride.

 

It came with 2" blocks and we have not driven it hard. Great to hear about the overload. I don't want to lose any capacity but a smoother ride is a must.
