I am attempting to mount a spare under the bed. It is a ko2 275/70/17.
I first had to pound the ears flat.
It rubs on the exhaust - it can be chopped.
Then i noticed it sits about an inch from the rear diff. When i jump on the bed it comes very very close.
I will attempt to relocate the spare tire hoist part today. Has anyone done this? I want to remove just the rectangular part with the chain in it. It has 4 bolts that are threaded in from the top. I dont know if i will be able to remove these or if the bed/box itself is in the way?
    Has anyone done this?
    Thanks

Correct those 4 bolts just attach it to "frame".

Most people just leave spare out of there and mount it somewhere else.

I removed mine ,and installed an air tank to fill part of that wasted space.

Yes. I just did this yesterday. 12mm wrench does the trick. Take your time. Comes right down.

To me, any spare under the truck looks like a mouse's balls.
I took mine off long time ago.

I'd rather keep it under the truck than take of space in the bed or mount it to a swing out. Keep the weight low if possible. If you can't fit it underneath than you obviously have other options to explore. 33" tire will fit.

Yep, I first knocked down the two forward "tabs/stops" with sledge but the 33" was very close to the differential. Now it sit about 1.5" further back and it rest on the sides, one frame mount and the exhaust hanger thing.

    I think I knocked all the mounts. also, 275/70 r17 is closer to a 32 than a 33...

For the people that relocated the mount would it be possible to fit a 285/75/17 tire? It’s a 1” difference from 285/70/17. Thanks in advance.

How close is your tire to the exhaust shield after this mod. Just did it today to fit a 255-80-17 in there. Fits fine, just real close the the exhaust pipe/shield. Going to try and bend exhaust hangers to try and get a little more room.
