Yes they are. Bought a soft brush that would fit through all the slots and a lug brush. Made it go a lot faster.

No, any type of tire shine just collects dust. Some people have used matte jet seal which I've heard helps but have done it myself.

I think there's a paint coating for matte finishes on Autogeek.

I like this product along with their matte wash for these wheels. I’ve also tried Poorboys World matte detailer spray with good results.

Tagged for interest. My wife’s 4Runner has these wheels. I’ve been using 303 protectant after washing them. It works well but doesn’t seem to last long.

The same 303 used on plastics? That is really the wrong application for that. Not going to last with the heat coming from the brakes. I would look into a wheel coating for something that last longer. I am currently running Gtechniq Wheel Armor.

Tagging for interest as well. I just picked up these wheels and have used a couple of different products with no avail. The best I have found so far is Griots Garage Wheel Cleaner followed up with some 303. As previously mentioned it only lasts a couple of days before looking gross again.

Why would you use a dressing on a wheel??

I don’t necessarily use it for the dressing aspect, although I do like to shine everything up for date night with the wife every now and again. I use the 303 as a UV protectant. My truck sits out in the Texas sun most days out of the week and I figured an extra layer of protection is never a bad thing. A buddy at work has these on his 4Runner back from the original run and they are visibly faded compared to mine.

A dressing will never last on wheels. At the minimum a sealant is required. Coating would be even better to protect from the elements. 303 is ok dressing but it is not the answer for everything. Do you put it on paint?

I'm far from advocating that 303 is the end all be all of detailing products. I use it because I have a jug of it in the garage, it's decently priced, and it gets the job done within reason. I would never put 303 on the paint. My truck gets Meguire's Ultimate polish and wax on a quarterly basis and some sort of spray wax in between. The best route is clearly a ceramic coating on the wheels and truck, but unfortunately it is cost prohibitive in my area.

I meant for the 303 on the paint to be a joke. :D I would consider DIY coating for wheels. No need to pay someone to do that. Really if you can apply a sealant, you can apply a coating.

That’s the fun thing about online forums, it’s hard to tell someone’s tone. I’ll look into applying a coating myself. Have you had good luck with any of the ones on the market?

GTechniq Wheel Armor. I was able to get 2 sets of wheels coated. Do not pay full price as Autogeek regularly runs 20 and 25% off sales.

These are easy wheels to clean if you have the right stuff.

If alot of brake dust is present I mix a couple capfuls of Simple Green with Dawn liquid soap and about .5 gal water in a bucket. Use 2 different size brushes to clean all the nooks and crannies, then pressure wash rinse. Clean the tires too if needed. Do this before you wash the truck body.

If the wheels just need a light wash then brush lightly with mild car wash soap.

If you use tire shine then trace, cut and use a round piece of cardboard same size as the wheel to keep the tire shine off them. If you do get any tire shine on the wheels then wipe them off with a rag dampened with Simple Green. If you clean your wheels properly dust won't stick to them that well, they will sort of self clean on the drive home:

*I'm sure there's something better for the wheel cleaner but I still have one bottle left and I haven't looked at anything else but that one is been good so far.
*The outside brush has premium horse hair, goes gentle on wheels specially on matte finish
*I only use the medium size woolies brush for my Tacoma spokes, other cars I may use the other two sizes.
I try and keep things as simple as I can, this is what works for my Tacoma, E46 M3:cool: and the wife's Impreza.
Sorry for the large pictures, any questions just ask.
