I´m on the market for a tacoma. id love an OffRoad but they dont sell them here in Mexico. All we have available are TRDSport and Sport 4x4 short beds. i can get a 19 4x4 for about 5 grand less than what the 2020 is expected to fetch. im finding it hard to justify 5k on CarPlay and electric seat. im the only driver. is there something im missing and should wait for the 20, or save some money and get a 19?

2019 for sure. Why not get a Hilux though?

There is no way I would pay the additional 5 grand for a Sport, but that is just my personal stance. I would buy the SR5 4x4 and spend that 5 grand putting a locker in it, and regearing, plus whatever other mods I could squeeze in after the fact. Or just enjoy it as is.. Your mileage may vary.

Facelifts and new models always come out higher in price, it will relax next year in the fall.

2019’s are going to sit on the lot until the 2020’s arrive... you’ll get a better deal on the ‘19 in late Oct, and a better deal on the ‘20 in early Feb.

I'd snatch up one of the last '19s

$5k for a 2020 with the same mileage (zero) is a huge waste

Not sure if they offer the Costco buying program in Mexico, but last month I got my 2019 for 2 grand under invoice. I'm in San Diego. It's always nice to have the newest model when buying new and spending so much money, but if you want the best deal, the 2019 is very close to the 2020 and a bit less expensive. There is no right or wrong answer. Both are essentially the same, but only you can decide which one is for you.
Good luck. Either way, it's a pretty cool truck.

Have to ask yourself if the following is worth it to you:

Keyless no touch entry on passenger side
    Power driver seat
    Larger infotainment center
    Apple CarPlay, Android, etc
    Reprogrammed transmission shifting
    Cameras all the way around
    New wheel design
    LED lights

I think I covered all of the updates. :notsure:

If the answer is no, buy the 19 and save some cash.

Per the chief Tacoma engineer the reprogrammed transmission started with the 2019. There’s a video around here about it. I had a 2016 for over three years and 5 months ago traded for a 2019. The 2019 has improved drivability over my 2016 with all tsb’s applied. Some here will dispute this but, it is my experience.

I took the information from this video below (should start at 3:20 where he's discussing the change).

Thanks for the backup. I was too lazy to search for it.

That's the 2020 he's talking about there. Why I included it in my list of 2020 updates. I think they had another firmware flash for 2019, but it sounds like this might be different for the 2020's. Without driving both side by side, I wouldn't be able to tell you for sure or not.
