With all the bitching about the problems and outdated technology on the Tacoma I’d think you people would like to see increased competition to drive Toyota to actually do something.

I think it’s gonna be hard for any other auto manufacturer to crack into the Tacoma’s top sales spot, in the same way it’s gonna be hard for anyone besides Ford to reach/maintain to top spot for half ton trucks. With sales numbers as good as the Tacoma’s it becomes self-inforcing.

I still think that GM and Ford are going to push sales for a little while, and soon Nissan will do the same when their next gen Frontier is released, but everyone will settle into their places, and the Tacoma will be safe and sound in its rightful place. At the top.

Has any other manufacturer had/used 4 different motors in the same truck over the course of ten years?

#truth!!! 14 different issues with my '16 Taco, all resolved currently but
it was the most painful 3.5 years of ownership of a brand new vehicle.

I dunno... I love my Tacoma, I’m on my second one... but that’s not to say that a Ranger driver can’t be just as happy about his purchase. To each their own.

I had a 1993 Ranger MT 4.0L V6, and that damn thing was a rocket. Loved the truck (teenager at the time). Bought it in 1995 and kept it 3 years. My dad had it after that for 7 more. Traded it with 200K on it and it was still running good.

3rd Gen's, especially the 16's were plagued with issues. The ONLY thing I can't resolve is the
weird ass vibe in steering wheel/pedal/floorboard. Many have it but no one has found a solution
yet, some have even traded it in, it was so bad that it would be make your hands numb, mine
isn't that bad but it does suck on long trips.

This is usually good advice but with the Ford Ranger it is and old truck that is just new to Canada and the USA. So in theory the bugs have been worked out.

I wish Toyota offered a Tacoma Turbo.

Got a 2007 Ranger that I bought at 159K. Little war horse. A/C will blow you outa there. Best cheap truck I ever bought. 189K now and no problems. Except I think the spark plugs are OEM! Wonder if they'll strip the heads when I change them?

I'm backing your AC claim, I had an 04 Ranger before the Tacoma and it was ice cold always, without seeming like it bogged down the drive at all. My 2010 Tacoma doesn't compare.

I did. I got lost once, stumbled into a casino that's off-off the strip. They take bets on things like the next MotorTrend review and consumer satisfaction reports.

So far I'm up 50 cents.

GM. Right now, if I'm not mistaken, in the 1/2 ton.

4 banger, 5.3, 6.2, and the inline 6 diesel. Hell they may have a v6 in there too.

Aren't all those current and available as options? I was referring to the development/use of an engine, then scrapping it and going back to the drawing board after unusually short run.

I finally saw the new Ranger. I saw one driving, and someone in my work complex has one (There are also a couple of Colorados, one of which being a zr2, a frontier, a ridgeline, and 5 tacomas one which is a 4 banger).

The mid size market is a fascinating thing to watch, and the Colorado's seem to be growing in popularity. Question is how long will they last before they start taking a complete shit?

I hope it doesn't, I love having those options available. I'd even be interested in seeing some compact trucks. I used to have a little Isuzu SpaceCab that was amazing. I could zip around all day and still haul things when I needed. That was a great truck, and fairly unique with the bigger rear windows too.
