New speakers WOW

You have to change out your stock speakers! I know there are a lot of old post telling what to do but I wanted a new one for those who have not done it.
I replaced the tweeters with the Subaru plug and play speakers, then ordered the Cruthfield front and rear door speekers with adaptors. total cost was around $250 and this stereo rocks now! No subs no amps just the stock system and new speakers. Best mod out there for about 2 hours time and under $300. When you remove the old speakers, you will understand! They look like the speakers in my 1974 Vega I had 40 years ago! I even just threw them in the trash even though they were like new, because they are so bad! Just do it.....you will be happy!

 

Which head unit do you have? Big fancy screen, or little crappy screen?
I have seriously considered this, but I’m afraid the stock head unit won’t have enough power to drive the speakers without an amp.

 

I had an SR with just the basic small screen radio. The sound difference was well worth the cost. I went with Rockford Fosgate speakers and the Subaru Kicker tweeters. I was considering a small inline amp like the Alpine Power Pack but never pulled the trigger. While I loved the Rockford Fosgate door speakers, I think you'll get more bang for your buck from the Kickers. Especially if you add the amp.

If I upgrade the speakers, I would probably go with Focal. Just my personal preference.

 

At a minimum, install the subaru tweeters. This hardware upgrade wakes up the sound on your oem radio.

 

You won't be disappointed. The factory speakers are cheap, thin, flimsy garbage compared to anything aftermarket. Hell, go to Wal-Mart and pickup some Pioneers and they would sound better.

 

Which Crutchfield speakers did you use?

 

If you hold off for a while they will run sales, especially Black Friday. Last year I pick up both front and rear kicker speakers for under $90 shipped to my door.

 

I got kickers in all my doors from ebay. Those alone would sound pretty damn good with the stock head unit, but I took it a little further and got he taco tunes box and a 12" kicker sub. Pro advice, use the taco tunes box, amp, and wiring, but dont use their sub. The sub they sold sucked, maybe I just had a defective one, but it did suck. Everything else is a definite must.

Does the entune sound system have the trash tweeters or is that just regular taco's that have them?

 

If it doesn't have jbl, it has trash tweeters.

 

Can you see it without removing the cover?

 

I donno, I took mine off in 5 seconds each.

 

Interesting. I thought you had to take off the plastic where the airbags are in order to pop the cover off.

yep~! stock speakers are shit. I did JL Audio all around, subie tweeter swap out and
a full length ported sub that runs the entire length of the cab behind the rear seats as well
as an Alpine amp to tie it all together......Hyoooooooge difference.

 

Nope. It's an easy and cheap upgrade to the stock non JBL speakers, less than $100 and 30 minutes of your time. This is one mod that's certainly worth it.

 

I did component speakers because I looked at the stock speakers in the door and couldn't believe how crappy they were. I knew I'd be better off to just get both at the same time. I mean look at the magnets on the stock speakers... I've picked boogers bigger than those.
