Dang, that's tough to look at.

Did habitat survive? Are you going to try and salvage some parts?

Habitat took some damage, we shall see what the insurance company says. I pulled a lot of parts.

Hope your insurance takes care of you. Must have been a really scary / shitty experience, sorry it happened. My buddy has been on the lookout for a used hab or wedgie, if they offer you a buyback on whole truck and you want to pass let me know, Im sure he would happily compensate you. In all honesty if you have time / space / tools you can usually make a decent profit just buying it back and selling parts.

So I made a little dump run last night and with about 320lbs of the wife and I in it, my truck weighed 6040lbs . I was pretty close to loaded since I leave most of my gear in the Habitat.

    didn't have - (estimates)
    Duffels of Clothes - 20lbs
    Food/Drinks - 35lbs
Hot water heater case - 40lbs
    7 gallons water - 56lbs
    1/8 tank gas - 12lbs
    1/2 tank propane - 10lbs

That's another 173 lbs... and that still doesn't include our inflatable kayak or bicycles (the 6040 does include my bicycle hitch rack). And i'm sure I'm missing something.

I guess I was just being naive estimating my truck closer to 5500lbs. Wow...

    Hey Mario,
I am having the same issue. Front driver side corner weld is cracking. I have a second gen long bed.

Please let know what actions i need to take and updates on a fix.

UPDATE: I have spoken with Jim, drilled out the end of the crack and awaiting braces.

Mine is currently wrapped but i would like to remove the wrap because it is peeling in some areas. Can you post the recommended cleaner?

Anyone removed the vinyl wrap from an AT Habitat? Was it a smooth process or a pita? Any advice welcome.

Not sure what the cleaner is exactly I haven't used either of those products. I would just look up "sharkhide aluminum cleaner" I'll probably grab some the sharkhide protector and re-do the outside of mine before winter, I have noticed a couple small spots of oxidation.

In terms of weight, pretty typical.

1 gal water = 8.34lbs + weight of container (2lbs assuming aquatainer from reliance)
food drinks 35lbs.. did you count the nearly 70lbs of the cfx 75dzw?
    D27m battery, 53lbs a piece
    Baja Solar kit + 15lbs
Blue sea switches + 10 lbs.
    Wood box/fridge platform + 30lbs
    Bull bar + 90lbs
    Maxtrax + 30lbs
    ckma12 + tank + 25lbs
    Duratracs themselves are pretty heavy
    hitchball +15lbs
    20lbs tanks weigh 17lbs empty
    coleman stove 15lbs
    camp oven
    kelty chairs
    ground rug
    cooking gear
    propane campfire
    mr buddy
    noco genius charger
    tool kit
    bucket full of doodoo
    awning + annex room
    camp shower
    etc
    etc
    etc

front coilovers and deaver leafpack are heavier than the stock components too

the stock offroad truck weighs like high 4300s w/ a full tank of gas.

    :)

And my Brute-Force swingout will be here within a couple months... Prolly gonna be close to 6500 when 100% loaded... and then I'll throw on a few hundred tongue weight. Good thing I drive slower these days! This is why the next truck I get will hopefully be a Ram 5500 lol.

Yeah, I have to stick with mine because it's the best size for the tight trails we go on. I'm taking the habitat off and selling it so I can brace the frame and maybe get LT. Once everything's done in a year or so, I'll look at getting another Habitat or something else.

We love the truck and the Habitat, but we are starting to think of what we want down the road. Thinking of possibly living full time, or at least a large portion of each year in a truckbed camper. We looked at the GXV Adventure Truck, but it wouldn't be as comfortable long term (not to mention about 100K more than my new plan). And heck... If the Tacoma and Habitat are still treating us well, I'll throw it on the trailer and tow it behind us! We've even joked about getting a TW200 and some backpacking gear and hanging it off the Taco... Inception-level-boondocking. :D
