    Hi Everyone,
I'm wondering if you all know if 33" tires that will be going on 15" rims fit in the wheel well of a 97' Tacoma without rubbing?
    Thanks for your help.

    Thanks.
I plan on putting a 2" lift on beforehand.
    Appreciate it.

The idea is on the stock ones, but in the future I plan on buying something like the American Racing rims Type 164's.

Even with a 2" lift, you are likely to rub unless you do some hammering or maybe even cutting of the fender wells. It's also highly dependent on backspacing and width of your rims, and width of the tires.

Do a search for what you are asking. It has been discussed a LOT here.

    Thanks.

I was unfamiliar with the sight and then saw the search tab.
    Apologies.

33x10.5x15 will be your best bet. I run 32x11.5x15s now on the stock wheels, 2” lift and no rubbing whatsoever.

33x10.5R15 is the best fit but you are limited tire options.

If someone is choosing tires based on what isn't likely to rub, you'll likely to end up with an inferior tire for your needs. At that point, might as well stick to stock size, or go full bro-mode with a 6" trailmaster and TSLs.

IMO, it's best to pick the tire you want based on performance, reliability, drive style, etc... then make it fit your truck using the minimal amount of lift possible (which will likely include some body modification), while recognizing that a lift by itself doesn't even prevent a tire from rubbing. It just prevents the tire from rubbing at ride height. Unless you make other changes, like wheels or upper control arms, it'll still rub, just maybe not in the parking lot.

I see what you're saying, but respectfully disagree. It's a fair thing to consider when sticking at or below 33s. Not everyone, including myself, likes or wants 12.5" wide tires, wants to deal with wheel spacers, wants to tub their wheel wells, or needs the worlds best sidewall. Doing all that work seems like the inferior solution IMO just to run 33s.

Which 33 tho? There are like 400 different sizes of 33's.

The irony about 12.5" wide tires is those actually are inferior, performance wise, to something like a 255/85 for most terrain types. Tall and skinny puts more pressure on the ground (= more traction) and sets down thru mud/snow rather than floating on top where there's no traction. It's really only when you're in more than axle deep mud do you need a fatter tire. Because they are skinny, they also tend to not need as much trimming, are lighter and cause less ware and tear on the drivetrain. Most people just don't like the look of them, so they end up causing themselves more work.

You can get BFG and Toyo MT's, Cepek Extreme Country, General Tire Grabber and Super Swamper in 33x10.5R15. For a daily and off-road truck like mine I'm ok with just these as my choice. If you want 16" or 17" your only 33x10.5 choice is Super Swamper.

Don't forget about 255/85R16, which is basically 33x10. There's another handful of tires available for this size.

I have 255/85 extreme countries on stock 16" wheels.

OP - here's a good article that talks about everything folks are mentioning above...all the factors that you'll need to think through.

A suspension lift isn't going to affect the size tires you can run - there are a lot of other things that do affect it however.

What size tires fit my lifted Tacoma?
