Continued progression from the manufacture. HELL YES!

Id be curious if you guys can unlock more stuff on the auto trans side of things. Auto downshifting when hills are detected, hanging onto gears... the "intelligent" stuff the trans likes to do.

There are times when our auto trans behaves outside of what the up / downshift maps have laid out. There are "intelligent" functions of our auto trans that look at things like riding the brakes downhill wherein it will downshift to 3rd gear on its own and as the end user, you can come up from that one gear at a time by going D to 4 back to D, or straight back to 5th gear by going D to N back to D. Another example is hanging onto say 3rd or 4th gear after you crest a long hill.

Question on used ECUs, as I've been a bit paranoid about bricking my ECU on an update. I've gotten my ECU numbers and checked out eBay/others and seen several. But, my question is, is there any way to verify that the ECU is good? I suspect the only method is to get one and swap it out, but thought I'd check if there's any other method.

Unless you can bench test it. Most junkyards don’t offer any refunds on anything electric for this reason and the fact that A-holes will try and return their broken stuff after getting a good one. I have had good luck taking their word on the condition of the vehicle prior to stripping. They can quickly reference wether the vehicle was submerged or totaled in an accident and usually if it was running when it came in since they will be trying to harvest the engine as well.

This has been my experience as well. I've purchased two ECU's from LKQ and they came through with good ECU's.

With these recovery methods, would it be possible to recover ECUs that have been bricked prior to these updates?

@JustDSM - Any final word on your hunch about pre-2012 trucks behaving a little differently?

Been enjoying my 3 deg. retarded cam gears on your base N/A tune - wondering if I'm leaving some advance on the table now, but wanted to wait to bug you for help until you had some conclusions since I'm a 2011.

I do have updates to share on this. Short answer is: Yes! There is a difference in operation between 2005-2011 and 2012-2015. I've got some work to do, to prepare a post about it (screenshots and all) but I'll make sure it's done. What you guys need to know for now, is the COT EQ Base table is not used in the earlier ECU as a fuel adder map even though the software indicates the COT is "Enabled".

Glad to hear the base tune is rocking for you, even more-so with the cam gears I'm sure. I'd wager we could spice it up a little with the gears installed based on the data I've collected thus far. I'd be happy to take a look at if for you if you'd like to pursue?

I haven’t had a ton of seat time with my latest tune yet but what little I have done feels great. I may or may not have surprised a few cars on the interstate. I can’t wait to hook up to my trailer and see how much better it is with the new tune.

You went from STOCK to out-modding me! I've got to get my cam gears, thermostat, and throttle body installed.. Makes me happy to hear you're enjoying the truck. Keep the logs coming and we'll keep it fresh!

Yes, but it requires opening the PCM, some very basic soldering skills and use of a bench harness
