okay lets be clear. You sent me two ECUs, paid for recovery of one, and needed recovery + VIN writing, calibration updating.. and we dropped off the package with both at the location that forwards packages to us, and as soon as we figure out where it went, it will be back to you. This isn't the first time I had issues with the UPS hub in Bristol.

I'll happily refund you the 75 bucks and be on my way. Not like I am making a killing resetting bricked ecus. Was trying to offer it as a favor. And you sent us the second ECU after the fact..
As a matter of fact I'll just refund it right now, and will get it figured out when possible. As I recall our email to you said the 9th.

Generally I do not have issues with UPS, but we have had numerous issues in the past with the hub in Bristol. I've had 2 ECUs stolen through regular mail so I refuse to use them.

Regardless it's nice to see HPTuners is creating a recovery option. I don't like opening these things and soldering to them so it's not like I was trying to actually profit off this. Only offered it as a favor.

I did a little reading and got a little confused.

Can I use a MacBook to run hp to then tune my truck?

    Or

If not. Do I need to install a program in a regular laptop ( say like a Dell) to run hp?

I stumble down upon (boot camp) in my search.....that’s where the confusion set in.

    :boom:

    :notsure:

:rofl:Well since hunting season is here I’ll probably be slowing down on the truck until probably February. I’ll get you some logs of the current tune but it does feel very happy. Thanks again man.

Windows program only. Bootcamp on your mac or a computer with native windows will work.

Just for my own clarification, following the update, the recovery methods are intended to recover bricked units or mitigate the bricking of units in general (or both)? I just wasn't sure what you meant by "better" and what types of recovery methods are currently in place. Units bricked after the update would still require soldering, bench harness, etc?

The write will be faster so there's less time for something to go wrong. Also, we will give some info on how to recover PCMs that are bricked without requiring a JTAG setup and binary files, but you will require access to the circuit board and also need to wire up directly to the PCM connector for the power, ground and CAN lines (ie. a bench harness).

Being an all-Linux shop here is a major factor in me not having ordered already. I did get VCM Suite installed and running under WINE, but device access is a questionable thing here because I see that there are specific MPVI2 drivers for download.

It would make sense that it's standard RS232 serial on both USB and BT sides, which is easy enough to pass through WINE. This method works great for VAG-COM and other similar tools. Can someone confirm? Does the Android app do any flashing/editing or just the VCM Suite?

    Thanks.

Handheld will be out by the end of the week.

I also really don't want to clutter this thread with OVTune stuff.

I haven't needed any recovery of my ECU but I wanted to just say Thank You for offering to help those that have. You could have easily went on your merry way but, instead, offered to help. So a genuine Thanks to you.

Now back to the regularly scheduled programming...
