It's a crime even if the skillet was only a few months old. I can't speak to the corn bread bit, I still have yet to make any in the griswold. Do people normally not put sugar in it?

Of course still put sugar in it. But works just fine. Must make your own bacon though

This constitutes a dislike (which we don't have) but not quite an ignore... Saved by the pork...

Being retired Navy I have lived all over the Country. And moved to Mn. from NC. It is a myth that Southern cornbread shouldn't be sweet and have no sugar. Just saying...

Just saw this thread pop up in recent threads... I have some pictures on my phone of some sort of cast iron pot I found out in NV desert along the old emigrant trail, figured some of you might find it interesting. Not the greatest pics.

That is pretty cool. It’s a civil war era pot by J A Goewey. Probably worth about $150. Here’s a patent granted to JA Goewey in 1862 for an improved tea kettle.

    Killer find man.

Edit: a link to an eBay auction unsold for $144.99. I like the description. “A New York gypsy kettle pot.”

My first thought would be to have y'all mail me your definitive version of cornbread and I'd be the judge of it. My second thought would be that I probably wouldn't be able to make a decision cause I like free cornbread regardless.

What sort of stuff do you make in a pot this shape and size? I can only see it full of pork and beans.

Was digging through a barn looking for a shuttle clutch for a old Allis Chalmers tractor and stepped on this wood box to get a peak in the shelf’s. Well I broke though the top of the box standing on it and it had all this cast iron cookware in it. Found the clutch and asked about the box of cast iron an got lucky. Old man said I could have it just clean up the rotted wood box. Dumped it in the shop to clean up when I get time.
