No one has ever called my '93 MR2 Turbo "gawdy" and no one has ever driven one with a A/T because they didn't make one.

    None... yet.
I couldn't find a three-pedal Taco specced anywhere near how I wanted it within a couple states of me when I was looking. They really are becoming unicorns. Prior to this truck, I'd only owned two automatic cars in my life: the Tundra I got rid of just before purchasing this truck, and the ancient lump of shit Cavalier that was the only thing I could afford as my first car back at 16. Everything else has been row-your-own.

God, I even had a little crap-box bargain-basement absolutely-lowest-possible-spec Civic that was so budget it didn't even have power steering. And yet, because it weighed nothing and had a five-speed, it was a fucking blast to drive aggressively (well... it was a blast as long as I was the only one in the car. Add another full-size human and the car's complete lack of power became glaringly apparent).

I dunno. I'd prefer to have a third pedal, both for the driving fun and the security (they can't steal what they can't drive!). But I don't mind the auto. The shift points are a little funky and it sometimes lags a bit, but it gets out of its own way if I put my foot down and that's all I need out of a truck. For the driving I do, it's fine. And hey, the two or three times a year I use crawl control, I'll be glad I have it

^^^First person to not call a MR2 a sports car, although some mistakenly think it is a Ferrari.

My yellow '93 also gets a lot of rubber neck WTF is that looks as well as an occasional

I think it’s interesting that you can get a 4Runner with a manual transfer case, but auto transmission only vs the Tacoma where it’s the opposite.

I guess you never heard of a British sports car like an MG, Austin-Healy, Triumph etc. or something like a Datsun 240Z or even a Miata. No high performance engine needed. OTOH the article does pretty much say that there is no one universal definition for what is a sports car.

    Yea
It’s like an off road rolling with AC Delco suspension. MR2 is a cute car though.

I'm not so sure that I would call an MR2 suspension that had design input from Lotus as well as Dan Gurney as AC Delco.

I agree. We had to get what we could get--my wife's first Tacoma had just been totaled in an accident, and she was about to start a new semester. Had we been able to wait, we would have.

I would have paid a premium for the MT in my 2017 SR; although the discount over the AT was nice.

Seriously, haven't you moved on from the nonsense of operating a lever? If it makes you feel better you can still make your engine noises and pretend to shift. Do you feel the same way about manual windows and electric start? A modern automatic transmission (except the Tacoma AT) is by far superior to a MT. Good riddance to the manual tranny!
