ive heard all the wait for 10k oil change, I’ve got 4K on mine now and taking a 10hr ride from nyc to South Carolina for a camping trip. Probably add another 2k or from the trip. Should I give 5he oil a change or still wait for the 10k mark?

This is one of those topics that you're going to get responses to that are all over the board. If I were in your shoes...*I* would, but that's me. *I* think it's smart to dump the factory fill early, and then follow whatever interval YOU feel comfortable with.

On my brand new 2019, I dumped the factory fill at 1,500 miles, refilled with Toyota Genuine Motor Oil and a TRD filter.

Interesting how so many owners change out tires, shocks, anything when they’re still new and in the same breath say keep your oil in until 10k miles.

I’ve got a grand idea, change it whowever early you want.

Engine design has come a long way since the 50's as well as enhancements in oil itself, that being said I still change mine at 3000 miles. To each his own, but I would rather be safe then sorry.

Changed mine at 5k and will continue every 5. 10k is too long imo, but that's just it, it's only my opinion. If you are going to be towing anything I'd definitely change it before you go

    Do you have a garage?

I did my 40k oil change in the Spring, and am at about 46k now.

Probably going to change my oil within the next few weeks when I Fluid film, since the idea of changing the oil in my driveway in January is not too appealing...lol

Change mine every 5k, I drive an hour to work and an hour back every day. I plan on riding this thing to the ground.

Just did mine at a 5k interval 30 mins ago. I believe the 10,000 oil and lifetime fluids is to advertise lower cost of ownership and reduce environmental Impact. I’m here to prolong the life of my equipment as long as possible so I follow “Old school” recommendations from before all this over the top environmentalism became the big marketing thing.

OMG:eek: you should have changed it twice by now! My grandaddy did it every 2500 on his 1972 International. Use those specs and change it, flush and change it again for good measure.

Of course not. 10K is fine.

    Oh, it's happening.

OP...I'd look at it this way. You're going on a haul, do you trust the factory setup or, do you trust the oil change process by the dealer, quick loob joint or who is gonna do it. If you going to diy, then I say go for it. If you trust yourself.

Long haul from from home, you don't want a rig breakdown due to lack of detail from an oil change.

Wait. Waste of good oil at 4-6K, (unless it's been more than 12 months).

I stopped doing the 3k or 5k oil changes years ago. The last 5 or 6 new cars I've purchased have all had oil change intervals of 7.5k to 10k miles per the owners manual for normal duty (non-taxi, non super dusty). Makes sense as car oil is way, way better now then it was back in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Most manufacturers run synthetic blend at a minimum, with performance engines running full synthetic. Toyota gives you free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years, so I let them change the oil when they say it should be changed.

It's your truck. It can't hurt to change it now. It's worth it so you're not on your trip worrying if you should have changed it.

So - following the OE guidelines is "Minimum" requirements. Right?

Did you also change plugs? Belts? Water pump? Timing chain? Transmission and diff fluid? How about brake fluid and power steering? If not, why?
