With ECT on and 5.29s, my truck runs like a damn scalded dog compared to before, and I went up to 315s from 255s

Personally armored up and tuned 91 with 5.29 has was awesomeness minus revs and MPG!! Moved up to 35s and even with 5.29 & tune its kinda a crippled dog! Waiting for the 5.29 tune release! Either way 100x better than stock! I’d promote the tuning before the gears for the faint of heart!

    Thats what I do.

So bare with me here. I couldnt figure out why for some 5.29s feel different. Everyone talks about the weight of their individual trucks, but no one really talks about the un sprung weight (not supported by suspension, just being turned by the axles) of their vehicles tires/ wheels.

So i just did the math of your specific set up (wheel/tires) vs mine, and we both run the same psi. And taking that into account here is what i came up with.\

    Hancook MT3 -288 lbs for 4 tires (72lbs per)
86.4lbs wheels- at (21.6)lbs per wheel
    PSI per tire-30psi

    = 374.4

Cooper ST Maxx-276 lbs- per tire is 69lbs
75.6- wheels- at 18.9lbs per wheel
    PSI per tire-30 psi

    = 351.6

thats a 22.8 lb unsprung weight difference, which is huge. Which is probably why we have different but feelings from our trucks.

    Break in question:

Had my gears in for 300ish miles now, likely to be around 450-475 by Saturday.

I want to head up to the mountains for a 14er, its 128 miles one way.

Should i do this? If so what precautions do i need to take? I will not have fresh gear oil by Saturday.

I live up a mountain and traveled up and down it (10 miles each way) every day during break in. Once you hit 500, you should do the oil change per manufacturer guidelines. My gear fluid wasn't changed until around 800 miles tho, and my gears are fine. Its the first 3 heat cycles that are the MOST important. Id say you could go, just take it really easy. But remember, its your truck, and if you want to risk it its your call. I wouldnt wheel it until you change the fluid though.

seems like nitros main concern is for people not to start towing right away... other than that don’t floor it and you’ll be good!

Ive been gentle on them thus far. Whats a hard acceleration? Red lining it? 5k? 3k? I’m not dragging it but i did have to hop on the pedal today to avoid trouble.

No wheeling this weekend, nothing more then a forest road. 2wd all day.

I may be able to do a quick oil change, looks like it should only take 15-20 minutes.

Id say hard acceleration would be a launch, or exceeding 2k rpms, like if you were at 2k, then went to 4k to accelerate, but thats me

Yeah im curious what it means, I haven’t dropped through gears resulting in a big rpm jump, but the truck did steadily climb up to 5k today accelerating up a hill

If your heat cycles are done you should be ok for normal driving. Just change the oil when you get back.
