You're doing it right, I started three years ago on a handmedown hardtail single speed and worked my way up from there. Slippery slope though.

BA for only 3yrs in. I'm 20+ yrs in and have way less skill than those years would imply. Granted I've been in and out of the game more times than I'd like to admit, so not really 20 consistent years. Only been back at relatively regular weekend warrior numbers for the last 8 months or so.

No true rider will ever have legitimate hate on a hardtail. Riding a hardtail requires more finesse and will develop skills that a full squish will mask.

I honestly just chose a hardtail initially for price, but I like riding it.

I've not really truly ridden trails on a full suspension just tested out a couple friends, and honestly didn't love it...just felt sort of unnatural to me. So I'll stick to hardtail for now, because I also don't plan to be any sort of downhill racer.

Couldn't agree more, I keep my single speed hardtail around for just that reason. my 150F/130R trail bike let's me get away with alot of bullshit that I should not. haha.

Also depends on the trails you ride. Don't know much about Alabama but I imagine it's a little flatter than Western NC.

Maybe less elevation change overall, but the trails are definitely not flat. I use every bit of my full suspension on the trails up around Huntsville.

you are correct, from what I personally have seen there aren't really any downhill trails/parks like say Windrock-type stuff around Alabama.

Monte Sano is my local place and while there are some flow and good trails....nothing like somewhere that has transportation back up to the top lol

While I'm automatically skeptical of the anything that includes 'shreds' in the title. After watching the two clips posted today, Coldwater has officially made the list of places to ride for me.

don't make fun, but here's an example of my skill level on biking...the beginning is really steep (in my opinion) and I have no experience doing that very much so we basically rode our brakes the entire way down.

yeah man I'm nothing special at all haha, my buddy in the videos could easily leave me...he barely ever breathes hard when we ride but he weighs about 150lbs.

I just want to get more experience and time.

I just dug mine out of the closet to get prepped for next weekend. The bladder is due for a clorox bath. Haven't been using it since most of my rides lately are sub 2hrs and don't warrant a pack. That and I hate wearing one.

haha it's motivation! I'm ready to ride today, though I feel like after looking at some of the Land Trust area I'm going to eat shit at some point today. I know @Jerneyman says he hasn't ridden in a while but I have a feeling he's gonna smoke me.

All the rides I have planned should be around two hours. I am just planning to take my fanny pack(tools/spare tube/pump). Only water I will have is the one bottle on my frame.
