Interesting A/C happening...

If I have the A/C off and I push the button that stops letting in air from outside, after 3 minutes (exactly) it flips back, letting in air from outside.

Anyone experience this? Does that description even make sense??

 

On defrost or on floor&defrost you can't recirculate the inside air. Is that what you have the selector on?

 

Nope - full forward vents. No defrost.

it's just interesting that it happens at 3 minutes exactly, every time.

Were you idling in hot temps?

 

Nope - I was driving down the highway and it's 45 degrees outside. Haven't tried it idling yet.

 

I noticed this to and i chalked it up to the computer thinking that people only temporarily shut of outside air so it reverts back to fresh air in mode so that the air doesn't get to stale

 

I also figured out that it makes no difference if the A/C is off or not. Taking it to the dealer this evening to get checked out, but over the phone, the guy said something about "defaulting back to..." something or other. I told him that wasn't acceptable. I'm not going to be driving around when it's -20 outside and have to keep pushing that button every three minutes, just so I don't have outside air blowing on me! And "just close your vents" isn't acceptable either...

 

I've noticed the cool air as well...my Dodge had an "off" switch on the vent control as well as the fan. I haven't tried the re-circulate button, but I will tomorrow.
Keep us posted as to what the dealer tells you...before it gets too cold!

Naturally, when I took it in to the dealership, it didn't happen! Of course, it didn't happen on the way home either. So, maybe they did something secret to fix it but didn't tell me. That way, they can make me look like an idiot...

 

They do that! I bought a Camaro new in 1986. The 3rd month I had it I accelerated on a turn and the throttle stuck sending me into 5 parked cars before I could kill the motor. I reported this to my insurance who then contacted Chevrolet. A week later they apparently sent "inspectors" to the body shop to "inspect" the throttle body.
They replaced it. I had NO proof-and they probably paid the owner a nice shutup fee! He said they came in on a weekend day when he and his main guys were off....

I don't get it. So what happens when you turn the fan on with the vent control "off"???

 

Nothing...The vent control had to be in some other position for the system to work. With the system off though, no air would come though the vents.

This morning I tried the recirculate button and it stayed on for the duration of my 10 minute drive. It also remained on when I restarted the truck for the return trip.

 

I figured it wouldn't happen to anyone else since it's never happened to me in any other truck. There's just something wrong with mine.

But naturally, when I took it to the dealer, we couldn't get it to do it......

 

My 09 also reverted back to outside air after several minutes. According to the manual...you have to hold the recirculate button in for 3 seconds for it to keep
defaulting back to outside air. I tried that and it seems to work. Give it a try.

Are you serious????? WTF were they thinking with THAT? It's a fu*king button! You push it once to make it do something - like every other damn car on the planet!
