I was warned, Boise defintely has grown since 2010. It was probably trendy in 2010 but it defintely feels more big city hip if that makes sense. Still a beautiful and clean downtown compared to what we have going on in Washington.

You'll see more homeless in one city block where I'm from (city of about 100k) than I've seen downtown here. Don't let that change.

I get paid too well where im at or id definitely call the hills around here home.

...From Avery, the IDBDR splits. Not for long - the two possible routes are separated only by the St. Joe River that runs between them - but each route has it's highlights. To the west, the road follows the old rail line through several tunnels. To the east, the road follows another rail line over several trestles.
We chose the west - and will forever wonder if we made the right call! :D The tunnels though were cool, and I'm sure either route is equally intriguing.

But tunnels aren't all we saw. See it all, including the moose, in IDBDR Pt. 9 - Move Over, Moose!

Spokane has a grubby feel to it. I just got back from Boise...and with all the construction going on, its madness. Theres a lot of mexican food places that werent there when I was. It was interesting but Im glad to be out of there.

...Our answers were of course mundane. We were from Washington, but had just traveled on dirt roads all the way from Nevada to Canada - can you believe it? We had no guns, alcohol, or tobacco...much less $10,000 in cash. And we were going to be in Canada for about five minutes.

And that, apparently, was a problem. "You mean you're just going to turn around the office and head back to the United States?" The border service officer asked.

    "Yep." I responded.

And with that, he held on to our passports and asked us to park the truck, letting us know that if we'd just wait a few minutes, our passports would be returned to us. Awesome.

I was in downtown Spokane the other day for work, and we walked a block or two to get some food and saw a drug bust and about a 1/2 dozen homeless people--made me feel like I was back in California. Glad to be in Boise area!

Spokane downtown was like that when i entered the military in 92, Ive since retired but..its only gotten worse. Saw a city worker recently just off the freeway picking up hyperdermic needles in a big sharps container. Bunch of nope there..

I'll be rolling into Boise this weekend and there for a week. Anyone have a grease gun loaded up with driveshaft grease that I can swing by / meet up and borrow 10-12 pumps for my 1st gen? I forgot to lube my shaft before this road trip and it's pinging a little bit when shifting between PRND :(

Anyone in the Boise area good with extracting bolts? Even after half a can of pb and heat, snaped the heads off of 7 out of 8 lbj bolts...

Only car and dd. Any advice or help would be awesome.

Try using a better penetrating oil. PB is near the bottom of the list in comparison to others. A 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF does quite well and you may have some laying around your garage.

I had to have a shop weld a nut to the broken portion in the spindle when I broke two bolts in Moab once. Not sure if this would really help since I doubt it would be stronger than the bolt head before twisting off.

Hope you already got this sorted out though. Good luck!

They're royally stuck. I'll try acetone and atf tonight. Tried welding a nut on today and no luck. At 180k guess the ubj needs changing too. Not looking forward to getting the abs sensor out though if i have to replace the steering knuckle.

I might have a sensor you can have. I think it's the passenger side. I deleted my abs. I'm in McCall, might be headed to Boise next weekend.

Yeah I think they're beyond hope. Some atf/acetone will be soaking into them shortly. I've got emails out to yards in Twin Falls and Ontario to see if they have UBJ & Steering Knuckles on some of the trucks in their yards. Tacoma is my only transportation other than a bike, so checking areas that I go to for work. Not 100% of compatibility between 4runners vs Tacomas, but researching now a bit. Was so close today with the Jungle on State, but it was an 02 without ABS. Win some / you lose some. My tacoma had its frame replaced at 50,000 miles, at 180,000 now. Some of these bolts are just not going to come out.

Haven't tried to really torch them out. Only have MAPP gas... and that is just not doing it.

Anyone have a lead on a used commercial shell near Boise for a 1st gen dcsb? I want to get rid of the fiberglass one I have and go back to something lightweight that has side doors.
