I finally saw a Gladiator Rubicon on the road yesterday and it's interesting (I still prefer the Scrambler) I wasn't that impressed considering I know how much more it cost in comparison to my Tacoma. Completely decked out they probably look pretty cool and be highly capable. I saw a couple AEV Brutes a few years ago and was impressed except that is one costly beast of a conversion. I've driven a number of Jeeps over the years and the more I see the news ones the more I want the older ones just for bombing around the desert but my Tacoma "as is" can do that now plus I can make it my own without ever hitting the Gladiator Rubicon price point. They've been up for a sale for a while here but I've only seen this one on the road which is telling, people love their trucks and Jeeps in this state so I would expect to see more Gladiators and Ford Rangers but both are not very common.

I wholeheartedly agree, and this is coming from someone who wants a jeep.

I actually like the look of most Jeeps but for some reason the Gladiator just doesn't do anything for me. I might be talked into a Wrangler Rubicon if I had disposable cash and space to park it along side of my Tacoma, wife's Avalon and maybe a Mazda MX5 Miata I've had my eye on for awhile.

I mean it's a 2" lift, 35's, and a canopy so it could be done for $6k if you go cheaper on tires and lift. That canopy starts in the same range as the Alu-Cab and A.R.E. CX HD so not too terrible.

though I guess if you wanted exactly that it does have wheels and a roof rack too... still, not any worse than standard-issue mods on a Tacoma.

Yeah, you're right. I'm just thinking 6-7k on top on the price of a Rubi and you're WELL out of my price range. That's gotta be close to Raptore territory, right?

Except you know the butterface friend is a total freak compared to hot one. But the hot one is the kind that ends up being that fit milf at 50 and still going strong...

Well they have one thing in common.
Gladiator frame I looked at the other day on the Jeep dealer lot had lotsa rust on the frame welds. Not a shocker for jeeps.

Chrysler's 3.6L V6 might be the worst engine in production today. Plan on replacing rockers and multiple cam shafts after 120k miles. I run a service shop for a taxi company and we have about 80 vans in our fleet with that engine and I can say it is a steaming pile of shit.

I live in the New Mexico desert where the sun is more a like a death ray laser beam than source of gentle light. The last thing on earth I would do is remove the doors and roof from my truck or envy anyone stupid enough to do it cause “it’s cool”...

Matter of fact, the first thing I did when I bought my taco was take it to the best window tinter in town and have every window including the windshield done to the maximum allowed by law.

I just checked one out at the local dealer here in Canada. Rubicon Launch Edition or whatever. $74,000! 74!?

These dealers are on crack, but the real idiots are the buyers who don’t bother shopping around. I had a local dealer tell me they were asking north of 55k for the base model sport. I basically laughed in his face and walked off.

In terms of innovation (quirky features) I feel like the Gladiator is leaps over the Tacoma. However, in terms of reliability the Tacoma is leaps over the Gladiator.

I really like how the Gladiator looks though. I'm interested to see the diesel platform and if there will be an opportunity in the aftermarket segment to mate a manual transmission.
