Essential tools in your truck

very similar to the above lists. for remote trips, I also bring a rubbermaid of fluids: brake fluid, PS, ATF, oil, pre-mixed, washer fluid.

Also:

Battery powered impact gun. I'll never live without one again.

 

I carry what's necessary to change out a CV in the back country plus the usual wrenches and sockets. I also carry a Milwaukee Fuel 3/8 drive impact and a set of 3/8 impact sockets. Anything more for these trucks is overkill, I've removed the CV nut with my impact no problem.

 

And the shitty thing is once you do a cleanse you'll find yourself in a need for something you retired from your kit

 

always my concern and why my kit seems to keep growing...

gotta think of repairs where the tools will be needed maybe....

i'll have to build a good "wheeling" additional kit to easily throw in the truck as well to keep the extra fluids and parts...

been toying with the thought of building a wood shelf in the back seat to make it easier to slide things in and out for floor storage and keep the top intact for the dog bed...

 

Except for #10, I carry all this, plus: cross lug wrench; torque wrench; tow AND recovery strap; D-rings; battery cables; and a hammer. I have a 4-door and all this fits under and behind the rear seat.

When I go off-roading or on an extended trip, I have a 37-inch Contico tool box where I throw in: 5-gal gas can; alum folding stool; 65-piece Bostich Pass-Through socket set; tire blocks; more straps; impact wrench with 2 batteries; and an assortment of 2X4s. In the bed, I throw in a 2nd spare tire.

 

Here is my list and I recommend everyone carry all this and more in case shit hits the fan when you are on the road!!

While the unijack looks like a great idea, it would NEVER fit under my trailer or tractor, and lacks the vast utility of the 35 year old high lift jack I am still trying to wear out!

This is how I use my Unijack since I have a 3" lift on my rig. The piece of wood gives it the extra lift I need.

 

I'm too lazy to look through the replies but I have one of those small jump packs that is about the size of 2 decks of playing cards - came in handy when my battery went TU.

 

I can't see the weight rating in the picture, but would the 4,000 pound unijack be more than adequate for a 5,600 pond vehicle? I assume 1/4 vehicle weight + a little fudge factor.

 

The only tool my truck usually carries is almost 200# and sits in the driver's seat...

Having had to regulate a coyote that bit off more than it could chew with a friend's dog and a few people ending up in mine shafts out here not by their own accord, my AR comes with on all my trips

 

An AR-7 packs a little easier if you don't need all of that power.

 

Maybe, but this one I know inside and out and hasn't let me down yet.

 

I've been out to DPG a few times and stayed in SLC and Tooele, I guess I'll have to keep an eye open to make sure I don't end up in a mine shaft. Or better yet, I'll let you know when I'm out that way. And here I thought not hitting cows and wild horses was my biggest worry.

Almost drove through a whole herd of the last time I was out there cuz the sun was in my eyes, and the way they were on the side of the shoulder, they looked like sage brush.

Out by Dugway isn't bad, but the Eureka / Mammoth has had a few disappear. If you wanna read a really messed up scenario, read up on "Riley and Breezy 2018". Lotta us 4x4 folks helped look for them. the end result wasn't anything near what we hoped.

• Roll in a can of small gauge military 2-pole wire. 1/4 mile of it when it was full. Used very little. Makes for quick low current electrical fixes and makes fantastic lower load cordage and lashing
• Snatch block for winch
• 30' snatch strap for recovery
• 2 sand ramps mounted on rooftop tent
• D-handle shovel on rooftop tent
• Hi-Lift Jack

On trips out of town

• Soft tool bag (about 80# filled)
  • every wrench and socket for Toyota parts that I'd need
  • Various screwdrivers and pry bars
  • Various pliers
  • Allen wrenches
  • Voltage tester
  • Various tapes
  • Some other random crap
• Portable Vaiar compressor
• ARB tire deflator and gauge

Only the tool bag and compressor bag are visible on the backseat floor when I'm carrying them. Everything else is stowed out of sight under seats, in the center console, etc. to keep the thieves moving along to the next vehicle.
