It'd be better to do it correctly in the long run. Honestly, if he can get the bolt out easily to grind it, then reinstalling it should be just as simple which would negate the need to grind.

Seems logical. From the pic, it looks like you cant fit the long bolt from the other side without pulling the whole assembly. If it's doable, then it should be done right.

Those Timbrens make such a huge difference when loaded. Safely my tool box and carts 30 miles or so with the Taco. So much more stable.

On the truck I used factory holes. you do have to cut the rubber filler for the bracket to go through

I might have to drop the u bolts pretty hard just removing the bottom bolt, dont think I can move it to the side enough to sneak the bolt in

Hard to see here, but have you jacked up the truck by the frame to allow the leaf pack to droop fully?

    Taco down!

    tacodown.jpg
    wheelsadness.jpg

Got hit by a lady who failed to yield to oncoming traffic while turning left at an intersection last night.
Everyone was fine as it was a low speed TC and the lady admitted fault to the cop who came to write the report.

Very possible bent axle and for sure that wheel/tire is FUBAR.
Tiny bit of damage to the fender/bed but that's definitely cosmetic and superficial compared to the axle.

Hence the tow to my buddy's shop to wait for the adjuster to show up and figure out how much damage there is.
Really REALLY hoping it doesn't add up to being totaled but even if it does, I'll buy it back and keep the salvage title.

    The really sad/ironic part?
I am 8 miles away from rolling over to 200,000 miles. If I had made it home, I would have stopped last night and taken a pic to post here instead of this bullshit.

On the plus side, on top of the lady admitting fault she was also cited for the failure to yield and I have the collision on video from my dash cam.
I'll post the dash vid later after the insurance stuff is worked out.

I don't care what the possible payout will be, I just want my rig back in working order.
But I wouldn't bat an eye at a new wheel/tire set up. Maybe some new gears. And a HC rear bumper... But again, I'll settle for my rig back and get out of this shitty little ferd rental that feels like driving a tin can.

It was a weird accident which the video shows.

First, one dude decides to gun it in front of me in the space of about 20 feet, which I honked at him for.

Which didn't deter the lady behind him who apparently didn't see a lifted, armored truck with it's lights on during a crystal clear Arizona afternoon to cross three lanes impacting my rig.
The irony here is her '07 Hyundai Sante Fe lost some plastic on the front but otherwise seemed mechanically fine and was able to drive away.
I waited for 2 hours for a tow... :annoyed:

You need to jack the frame up. Do not put the jack under the rear diff. :)

Get it as high in the air as you can and place jackstands under the frame, support the free end of the axle while you do it, watch those brake lines. Once it's up there, lower the free end of the axle until the brake lines are taught, that should give you enough rotation on that shackle to get the bolt turned around.

could the bolt be "caught" on the frame keeping it from drooping fully? apply some downward force on the axle once it's only supported at the frame.

watch the brake lines (maybe disconnect the bracket that holds the hard lines to the axle).

If you haven't thought about it already, be sure to paint/coat the spot that has rubbed so that ruse doesn't form.
