Finally ordered some 3˚ axle shims....hopefully helps with driveline vibes and makes my leaky pinion seal happy

    never say never

But really though why are we saying never

I took the carrier bearing drop spacers out awhile ago as I think it was just making things worse...should have done shims from the start.

Spacers on the center bearing cause of lift?

Yeah, the rear lift throws off the geometry of the driveline and as a result over the last few years my pinion seal has developed a slow leak. I tried carrier bearing spacers first cause they're easy to slap on, but I don't think they helped at all and in fact might've made it worse. Shims slide under the leaf packs/above the axle and angle the driveline back into it's stock geometry, or close to it.

I'll probably still need to address the pinion seal leak but it's not terrible yet

Ah ok, never would've thought of trying to keep it all straight when I lift it. But If you tried it and it didn't work, is there any way to fix it?

I have some vibes around 60mph and I plan on getting 2.5 or 3 degree shims. Sucks that ARB was only willing to give me a spacer to fix my dakar lean and the shims will be taking priority over a spacer.

yeah the shims are basically a spacer anyway, just an angled one. I picked up the 3˚ ones just because it seems those are the most commonly used for ~2.5 - 3" lift.

I haven't tried the shims yet but they should do the trick. The carrier bearing spacers were the thing I tried before that didn't help

I have two trim packers up front to offset my front lean. The problem here is my Dakar rear leaf springs have completely failed after 10,000 miles and began heavy leaning to the driver side even with no gas in the tank. I also had a major sag as they no longer provide much lift.

After calling them up they just gave me the run around for months, until their final offer was a leaf spring spacer block to fix the lean to the driver side in the rear.

If you carry weight in the back then Dakars aren't any good, in my experience. Even with an AAL they sagged badly with a bed rack and tent + couple hundred pounds of gear.

The sag began with literally nothing in the rear of the truck. I had taken the truck in a few camping trips, moved some furniture and firewood, and done other "truck things" but up until my camper shell in July I had never permanently had weight in the bed. So they literally failed under the weight of a stock empty truck.

I'm going Deaver or Alcans next. And putting these Dakars on my project truck.

Hmm yeah that's not good. I mean they are naturally pretty flat springs but they should still be providing lift esp with no weight back there.

I haven't had great luck with my Expos either, if I were to do it again knowing what I know now, I'd have gone with Alcan springs from the get go

Unless you've got a bumper/swingout tire carrier, the tailgate is forever replaced by my tiregate.

    @JKO1998 your ditch lights removed.

    20190919_120239.jpg

Also went to Sears to redeem some $25 worth of expiring points; these magnetic LED flashlights were only $3/ea for the blue/green and $5 for the red.
