    Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think negative rep should be given for things like a (undeserved) personal insult, some serious bad advice, or doing something non-productive like crapping a thread. It shouldn't be given just because someone has a different opinion, or someone just "doesn't like" someone.

    Maybe knowing your name is on a negative would cut down on these instances?

    Of course in the case of poor ol' nd, it's a whole different ballgame. :)

    No, a "grey dot" means rep is now equal. As in, if someone gives you neg rep, then someone after that gives you positive rep, the pos rep will show up as a gray dot. It didn't get you anywhere, just back up to what you were at before, hence, equal.
