Just bought a 2019 and I want to disable the drivers side seat belt chime (not necessarily the passengers side). I see several threads on this saying that a dealer may do it, or if not, the Carista app can. I was wondering if anyone had accomplished this by disconnecting the sensor? That worked fine on my '95 Tacoma but the 3rd gens are a little more complicated.

I took a pic under the seat and there are a lot of connectors so I thought I'd ask for some advice before I started unplugging things. Here's a picture of what's under the seat. Note that I have the heated seat option so there's more wiring than some vehicles will have.

Anyone know if one of these can be disconnected to trick the system into thinking the belt is plugged in like on the '95. And if so, which one is it?

I think the cheapest and easiest solution is one of those seat belt latch placeholders. I've seen them on here before, you just click it in to the latch instead of the seatbelt, done deal.

Anyone have a line on that product?

You can’t trick it with basic wiring, I tried opening & closing the circuit going into the seat belt itself. Both ways resulted in the air bag light coming on.

I’ve just been dealing with it since.

Ask the dealer during a service- I did and no questions were asked

If you disconnect the wiring you’ll get an airbag light.

If you want the dealer to do it, tell them during your next oil change you often sit a package or something on the front seat and the weight of it picks up the sensor. You request to have them disable the chime. They should do it for free.

Pro tip: I worked in dealerships for 10 years

I just bought a 2019 Tacoma and would like to do the same thing. My previous Nissan could be programmed to disable. The light would remain on (fine by me) but the alarm would not sound. I don't know whether this is available on the Tacoma, but I sure hope so. I have shoulder pain that can't handle the strap. NC DMV told me I could keep a doctor's note in the vehicle and that it might help, but that ultimately it was at the officer's discretion whether or not to ticket me. No ticket so far, but no stops either.

Do what this guy did. This works. I tried to do this last year, but the dealership told me it was to late. If I were to ask when I bought it and within a certain time frame. They would of disabled it for me.

That smells like bs to me. If you really want it tell them you’d pay- it really shouldn’t take to long but again dealer. Or buy the Carista app

or go to parts and request a seatbelt extender. It was free (it’s in the manual somewhere)

Go the Carista route. Super easy, plus you can change a few settings with it you may not even realized you wanted. You'll also be able to pull codes from the truck in the future without taking it to the dealer. It's a nice tool to leave in the center console.

The dealership was unwilling to do mine... said it wasn't allowed.

Print the post and show it to the dealer...and have them show you where they have instructions as not "allowed" or hunt another dealer willing...

I'll try printing and showing, but I got the impression that it was simply this dealership's policy.
