I can't make up my mind what direction to proceed. I have a substantial investment in Helis. None of which is transferable to Camera Drones. Resale value of RC Helis and Planes is only about 40% of retail value. Camera Quads have a little bit more of a resale value @ ~ 70% of retail. My current job doesn't permit a lot of extra time to invest in much of any hobby working almost 70 hours per week, 6 and 7 days a week. Pay is excellent. And retirement benefits are going to be great. Just not sure that I want to start a business after retirement either.

That's a lot of hours, my friend. I got paid for 40, but salaried, so that's how it goes. Had a little more saved than I knew, when I got "pretired", so just sitting around enjoying it. Don't want to make too much money and pay for it in benefits. But playing with RC "toys" sounds more fun and less work than anything else that has popped up!

I am Sooo much looking forward to retirement. I'm 57 now. And not really sure how much longer I will need to go. Estimating another 8 Years to go. With the way I work now, I'm putting a lot of faith in my retirement being both profitable and pleasurable. Doing the legwork on my RC hobby now so that I can enjoy it more when I get older.

65 next January, WAS planning for 67 for retirement for max benefits. They gave me virtually all of 2018 pay to go away last year, so I said fine. Paid for the solar on the roof to save the wife money on electric, and we pretty much decided that this paid off house is home base. Central Texas is just fine, if a little hotter than it used to be. Your hobby could be a fun way for "mod money"!

67 is FULL for me too. I don't know if I can work that long like I do now. I've been at this job for 15 years. And it hasn't changed much. I suspect to almost never have another Saturday OFF until retirement (not counting vacations). Fifteen years of service here is more like twenty-five at other places. But I get 1.5 pay after 40. Double-time on Sundays. And triple-time for holidays (yes we do work several holidays). Lots of people ask me why I work this way. Sometimes I even question it myself. But I can afford to live beyond what I would have expected even in my dreams. And nobody wants to give me a living. So I carry on.

Those pay levels are what makes it worth it. I bet you can retire at 65 ish and leave SS on the table for full. I assume you have 401K and matching stuff, so that can add up, and make it easier to live nicely. I actually had a pension from one of the variations of the same company, but that literally pays for insurance, and that's all.
Sounds like you've got it buddy! Don't work too hard finishing it off!

Ya I've got both Pension and 401K. Forecast for Pension is almost as good as 401K. I consider myself extremely blessed (provided I keep my health). Just hope I haven't put to many eggs in one basket. But, if I do go prematurely, my family will be cared for.

From what I currently see. Cars are still doing well. And you can run them in your yard. But just really not that appealing to me. Planes are still doing well. But more difficult to enjoy because of the space needed to fly. Helicopters have a small but hard core nitch. I like them because you can fly them in smaller spaces. So they are easier to enjoy. But they are expensive to obtain if your after the larger airframes (larger airframes are easier to fly). Quads come in two categories. Racing and Cameras. Both can be very expensive depending on the supporting equipment. I really love the concept of each platform. Racing Quds give you the sensation of actually being in the cockpit of one hell of a flying machine. Unfortunately , for me, I found myself motion sick for hours after a flight. You can create beautiful works of art with camera platforms. But you have to travel to make them worth the price.

Ok, who is in Kerrville with a newer Taco, dark colored with a roof rack and lift? Older guy? Pulled up next to me at a light and my wife looked over and he had his phone out the window snapping pics of my 4runner. Lol. Anyone on here?

Again with the mowing?! I haven't mowed in weeks and it looks exactly the same: barely alive.
