3rd GEN Added Lamps to Cargo SW

Completed harness with taps to all pins on Cargo Lamp switch except RED (CGSW_CGLP)

 

help:
The documentation you have is great, I somehow get confused on application.

I will have VCC and Ground to the leds.

I need them to illuminate ( on ) with the following conditons.

a. ( key fob lock-unlock )
b. ( door open )
c. ( manually turn on the cargo light from OEM switch in dash board. )

I have a relay
12V DC 40/30 Amp 5-Pin SPDT Automotive Relay
I have mini fuse tap ( sun roof fuse is my proposed pick point )


I will have pin 86 and pin 30 on relay = 12VDC
I will have pin 87 on relay to rock-leds then GND

I need pin 85 on something that will work with a. b. c above.

Do you know where I can find these wires ? and what color and where are they.
Assumtion is drivers side kick panel.

If all are required, you'll need a few more parts, but if you leave the Cargo Lamp Switch on DOOR, and you tie your added relay wire from pin 85 to the BLUE wire on the Cargo Lamp connector you're set.
The wire (BLUE) you need to use are behind the driver's dash panel (behind the Cargo Lamp Switch).

 

Here be another tap. Using a Tundra Cab Illumination switch.


You can have the added lamps OFF, DOOR or ON.

 

For a "cheaper" switch instead of the Tundra switch and connector.

 

thanks for the help, really enjoy the mod, the off/door/on switch does everything I need, on door, it will turn itself off with the dome lights ect. 12VDC fused, sourced from sunroof tap to relay pin 30 & 86. Relay pin 87 to leds RED. Relay pin 85 to blue wire on cargo connector with tap. Gnd I used the 10MM bolt that is closest to the door into sheet metal. This ground was for Led black. I dropped the panel under steering wheel with three easy to find 10MM bolts, It un-cliped nicely, easy to find, I also had drivers side kick panel and door sil panel off, all very easy to remove and replace. I used a very small hole under drives seat carpet to get out of the cab. I need to revisit that spot and wrap wires to keep from rubbing and putty it up. I think this basic mod should come from factory, Im super happy with this one. Thanks all for the work you did to help the rest of us.

 

Excellent! So no added switch for OFF or ON? What tap type didya use?

 

The cargo switch, I can control the leds , with it , turn them on or off or use the "door" feature. This switch controls the back cargo lamp as well.

it had a 15amp included with tap, make sure you install it in the correct slot. Use meter or test lamp to verify. )

Bed lights tied to Cargo Lamp switch and an added tailgate switch.
Cargo Lamp on Door or ON, Bed Lamps ON.
Vehicle OFF, tailgate open, Bed Lamps ON.
Adding a Tailgate switch "lock" would be a solution for daytime or driving with tailgate open...

@caribe makaira @planohog @lapoltba ... I have a couple clarifying question for you guys...

I have a topper, so the Cargo lamp is useless to me. I want to repurpose the dash's cargo lamp switch to run some interior LEDs instead. I want the switch's settings to be honored (On, Door, Off).

I have a cargo switch harness (en route) from @lapoltba with taps for all pins. The LED kit I'm using is an Opt7 Aura Pro LED kit. From their website:

This kit has a little black box with power and ground for running the LED's themselves, and it has a remote power-on wire. I have dedicated power and ground through a fused power block in the engine that connects directly to the battery.

The remote power-on wire is supposed to be hooked to a + wire that turns on when the door is open. Which pin from the back of the harness should I use to feed the remote + wire for the Aura kit? The blue wire is labeled as a ground, presumably for a ground activated relay, as described in the posts above. I need a positive wire.

Presuming then I need to use the green or brown wire? Which is positive and which is negative?

From the post by @caribe makaira on the top of page 2 in this thread, the labels in the picture posted do not match the labels for the diagram:

Brown is labeled as Illumination positive in the picture and Illumination negative in the diagram. Same for the green wire. Also, I am not sure if those wires are only hot based on the switch setting (On, Door, Off)?

The Illumination circuit is for backlighting of all the buttons and switches on the dash. It is fairly low power and should not be used for anything other than small backlight LEDs in switches. It goes on and off with your headlights and dims with the instrument cluster just like all the other interior buttons. If no-one gets back to you before I get home I will look at the wiring diagram again. It's been a while since I looked at this part.
