Driver door hinge broke

So the middle hinge on the driver door completely broke. It’s actually the metal around it broke. Like metal fatigue maybe from opening and closing. And no the wind didn’t catch it or anything like that. I opened the door and a loud pop. I’m assuming that’s when it gave completely away. I doubt Toyota will do anything about it. I’ll bring it in to see what they say. Just seeing if anyone experienced this 2016 with 75k miles

Lol. You forgot duck tape.

Nothing but welding will fix that. It’s also very easy to tell if it was the latch or door opening force that cause it, but at 75k your out of warranty. Toyota extended warranty should cover it, but no aftermarket warranty will. So dealer if you have Toyota extended warranty and it wasn’t force, or a decent body shop can fix it you if you don’t have a welder.

 

The Sienna’s had an issue with this and they put out service bulletin.
For sure go to the dealer and ask for the rep to look at it..
It has to start somewhere.

My 2019 taco with 6k on it makes a popping noise from both front door checks. Gonna see what they say at the 10k service.

 

It’s the door check not hinge. It’s probably $30. Go buy one. Who would even try to weld that? Total waste of time, LOL

It’s a door check, and you couldn’t weld that.

 

More Than the door check. It’s the metal that it bolts to. They won’t do anything to warranty it because he’s past 3/36

 

They might be able to weld a new plate behind it??

 

Probably all you can do. Or use the body glue they hold body panels together with. That crap is strong and you won’t have to worry about melting the paint

 

Same thing happened on my '05 Tacoma. Body shop wanted $500+ to fix it. I ended up taking the linkage apart and tried to be careful every time opening the door. Good luck!

 

I was able to really get into it today. I took the door panel off and fabricated up two metal shims I sandwiched between the panel. Looks like it should do the job just fine. Opens and closes like it should. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. If this didn’t work the panel adhesive would of been my next route on attaching the metal plates I made up.
