Pros and Cons of a Hard Topper?

Its not worth the added cost. The retail cost of most toppers is a bit excessive in my opinion. Thats why I buy second hand, and typically for at least half the price of a new one.

To me the only downside to buying used is that you can't always get exactly what you want. Case in point, I really wanted windoors and the bedliner model I have wasn't my first choice. But for the price I paid, I'm willing to make some concessions.

 

Hi, its a Prinsu on the cab. I designed the matching rack on the shell online and had emachineshop.com laser cut it.

 

Dunno if anyone's asked already but, do you sleep in the back of your short bed? That's my dream setup because its so quick and easy to set up camp; you just park, then hop in the back and sleep, done. But I also have a short bed, which doesn't really fit me at 6ft.

I miss my canopy. Kept my stuff nice and dry and secure from sticky fingers. Wheeled a ton with it and never had any issues cracking. Only reason I sold is to buy a different canopy.

That was my project post and I backed into that tent! The people who were in it got out and didn’t want it as I drove away, so it’s mine!!

Actually, it only cost $30 and works fine. Its just an economy and functionality vs. looks difference thing anyways...

My eyes see a longbed. Longbed in his signature as well (admittedly that isn't proof of anything).

 

Real easy answer: I don't want to throw dirty things or an animal carcass in the cabin.

 

Anyways, I they are really good as keeping stuff secure and protected. I keep a cooler with drinks in my truck along with other gear.

I will add:

Windoors are expensive, but awesome. Way worth the extra $450 per.

A utility trailer makes up for the lack of open bed.

If you travel and camp, you can securely pack more gear.

 

Agree... a short box with a top, might as well bought a 4runner...?

Pros- my deluxe with locking flip up side windows and sliding front cost $750 in 2003 Cons-same model today is over $2000 I have a utility trailer so oversize loads is not a factor. I have custom storage added behind side windows for smalls. I keep a extendable boat hook in bed to reach stuff . After 16 years the clear coat blistered but was fixed with a scrubbie and rattle can clear.
