If you could start with MPGs, transition to hood flutter, and finish with a howling diff, I would appreciate it. It’s become tradition. I believe in tradition.

I didn’t want to trigger any backlash about neutral clunking or the too-tall reverse gear in the MTs.

Again people want ridiculous amounts of money for rusted piles of shit.

Saw a 1st Gen runner going for 8k and it wasn't even running or road worthy

I could build something for 10 grand that will out wheel the 100k taco on solids. Waste of money to change out the axles and all the rest. Build a trail rig and tow it with the taco.

My Samurai already has a solid axle, power steering, lockers, fresh engine with screamin eagle 44mm carb and longtube headers. She's a mini beast!

Carb? You didn’t do the 1.6 EFI swap? Most samurais swap to yota axles.

Those are great. Couldn’t make it up a bunch of boulders on a steep part of a trail once, and a stock Samurai carrying four fat sunburned bobble headed tourists made it up with no issues!

Another time, three of my wife’s company trucks were stuck on a muddy part of a trail, and a tour group of Samurai’s all went around them and continued on through the deep mud without bogging down in it at all!

Good luck out there. Do whatever makes you happy! Who cares what internet people think. I just think youll have a better time in an older truck tackling buggy trails

ahahahahahahaha 100K taco what a waste of money. Look up rock slayer on pirate. Their 4 link got roasted but they have come a long way from that!

Dude all about looking. I buy all of my old toytas from 500 miles away in dallas TX

different strokes for different folks. My truck goals has a lot more steel tube lol

    This is exactly the point.

My buddy wheels a samurai on 32s and exo cage and will go on every trail that the trucks on 40s will go on and makes it through all of it. He swapped in an EFI motor

My buddy did the 1.6 swap, and is currently in the process of mini truck axles and stretch. It will be more capable than my fj40 after this is done on 35s

I agree having a second dedicated trail rig is ideal but..

Pretty sure with 30k I'd build something like this.

And saying you'll out wheel someone is dumb. Nice cruiser though.

I got my fj40 for 15K. Im not spending 30K on a wheelin truck, sorry. IF I did, Id get an ultra 4 or a Ftoy.

The point is he could spend 10- 15K instead of 30-60K and get something miles more capable. I have seen mini trucks with dual cases, one tons, and locked up for less than 15K

Outwheelin someone is not dumb. A jeep rubicon stock will out wheel any Tacoma in the rocks thats not been SASed. A Tube buggy will out wheel a Jeep rubicon. etc.

Sure.I agree. You said you could spend $30K on a 3rd gen and you could still smoke it in the rocks (I'm assuming with the cruiser).

I say if I spend 30K on a 3rd gen it'd look like the buggy I posted and at that point it'd be up to whomever is a better driver to "smoke" someone in the rocks.

Thats a nice cruiser btw. My dad and brother have similar ones.

Here’s a pic of my brothers cruiser and the Jeep I’m building (cause I can’t afford a fj40 :pout:)

The Tacoma is prohibitively expensive to turn into a crawler though and keep it rolling without crazy dash lights and the computers working right. Taco box is expensive. New drive shafts, You would want to 3 link the taco as opposed to leafs and thats $$$.

99% of people wanting to SAS their 3rd gen tacomas are people who are still wanting to daily drive it since its still such a new truck. Idk of anyone wanting to chop off major panels on a 30-40K newer truck that they might still be making payments on lol Then at that point at every big tree or big rock at door level on the trail they would be cringing because they dont want body damage on their super expensive new sased tacoma lol.

Thats a nice jeep though dude, just smile and blend in with the 40s. It will go everywhere they go lol.

My friend is selling his samurai, debating on purchasing but struggling to find comparable zuks for sale to get an idea on price. Dual locked, 5.38s, fully gusseted and trussed Zuk axles, 4.0 transfer case, 1.6 swap, full cage, rancho 9000s, sitting on 35s, YJ leafs slightly stretched, high steering, and some other stuff.
