Have any of you done Shoe Lace trail? It is rated a 3 on OF4WD. Some friends are planning to go in late Oct. Any concerns with trying it in my un-lifted Tacoma on 32" tires? I only have the MBRP skid plate and RCI sliders. I've done Gooderham as part of the Newbie Run, and it is rated 3+ on OF4WD.

Haven't personally run it, but based on the recommendations of 33" tires you are not too far off. I would be more concerned about the water crossings without a snorkel. Usually as long as your skidded you can get away with dragging yourself over stuff.

Also I did part of anon south which is a 4, and a stock jeep did it, so never no with the ratings.

@Norilsk and @Therby may have run that one as they did a bunch of trails in one day in that general area.

you’ll be fine, 32s is enough for anything up to 4.

What would be the max. depth of water a stock Tacoma can go through? I haven't done any of the breather mods yet.

where your axle begins (about 9”).

After you do rear breather it’ll be just below your headlight line, assuming you don’t stop in water crossing.

Your intake is just above your passenger wheel well. Don’t stop and keep the level and speed of the crossing tame.

Thanks guys. Well I guess I’ve got a couple weeks to do the rear breather mod.

I’m pretty sure I’ve already gone through water deeper than 9”. It would only be an issue if there was a problem with the breather right? I thought it was a one was valve.

It just sucks water when you cross water if you don't relocate it. You might have bits of water in your rear diff, you can check it by removing fill plug.

The issue is the diff gets warm and when you go through cold water it creates steam and pressure inside the diff. The breather allows that pressure to escape without ruining your seals. Issue is when that breather opens to let the steam out it can allow water in.

If you don’t want to do a diff change you can check it through the fill port. Milkshake is bad.

9" depth is OK. Unmodified fording depth should be around the height of the breather, so 15.4" (hub to ground) + 4.5" (additional height of pumpkin) = ~20" or so of still water.
